The CASCADE CHALLENGE was a new competition introduced last year and it created a great deal of interest. It is basically a SINGLE BIRD NOMINATION and any pigeon can be entered for just US$10 (approx. £6-66p) but the “POT OF GOLD” can only be won if one of the NOMINATED PIGEONS actually wins 1st OPEN, if not its like the National Lottery, it just rolls over to the following week until somebody finally wins the jackpot. You do not have to enter the same pigeon every race, the choice is yours. The Sun City Million Dollar web site will give you all the information you need to enter this competition. There is already a starting fund of US$3,028-50 (approx. £2,020) which was carried over from the 2009/10 race series. You can enter this competition starting on TRAINING RACE 2, then 6, 9, 10, 14, 15 & 18, plus CAR RACES 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and of course the FINAL RACE. SO WHY NOT HAVE AN EXTRA BIT OF FUN AND LITTLE GAMBLE?

CASCADE CHALLENGE result for CAR RACE 1 had a total of 122 entries and this included 24 pigeons entered from the UK and 2 from Ireland and a total of US$4,643-50c was flown for and GUYS LOFTS with TONY’S CHOICE came 8th OPEN and just missed out by 07-75 seconds to scoop the jackpot. This is one of the toughest competitions to win because the single pigeon nomination means the pigeon has to win 1st Open to walk off with the cash prize. This fund will now carry over to CAR RACE 1 on Saturday 6th November. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THAT TAKE PART IN THIS EXCITING CHALLENGE.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL CONCERNED AND REGULAR “PRESS RELEASES”, “NEWSLETTERS” AND “UPDATES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL COMPETITORS/ENTRANTS AND SYNDICATE SHAREHOLDERS ON A WEEKLY BASIS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. ALSO WEEKLY “PRESS RELEASES” WILL BE SENT OUT TO BOTH OUR PIGEON PUBLICATIONS NAMELY THE “BHW” AND “”RP” PLUS IT WILL ALSO BE ON OUR WEB SITE www.scmdpr.com FOR ALL TO VIEW.

*** EXTRA SPECIAL NOTICE*** One point that should be pointed out to all competitors and entrants is that only your NUMBER 1 pigeons is “ACTIVATED” (FULLY PAID UP ENTRY) with the other TWO (2) pigeons in each of your “TEAM OF 3” being your RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS. Another point worth mentioning is if you happened to lose your NUMBER 1 PIGEON, your NUMBER 2 PIGEON would replace it FREE OF CHARGE and likewise if you then lost your NUMBER 2 PIGEON, your NUMBER 3 PIGEON would then replace that one FREE OF CHARGE. If you were unlucky enough to lose all your entries of 3 pigeons in any of your “TEAMS” and they had won no “Special Prize Money” in the new 5 x Car Races then you are entitled to a “FREE ENTRY” into the 2012 SCMDPR, all you have to pay is the shipping/export costs. This of course represents great value for your money. All pigeons go to every training toss and Saturday races providing they are fit enough but can only compete for any of the allocated PRIZE MONEY or SPECIAL AWARDS in the 5 x CAR RACES if they are “ACTIVATED” and that means that these must be paid for prior to the CAR RACE 1, which is due to take place on Saturday 6th November 2010 from 140km (approx. 87 miles). The cost to “ACTIVATE” these “RESERVES or BACK-UP PIGEONS” is US$1,000 but that will then entitle all these fully paid up pigeons to compete and be eligible to fly for all the extra cash prizes and special awards that amounts to close to US$300,000 (approx. £200,000). The one thing to remember is that once your reserve pigeon or pigeons are fully paid for, if then they get lost and have won no prize money or special awards in the Special Money Races, then you get this money refunded (less about US$15 (£10) for bank charges) or you can have it added to your ASI account, which can then be used to purchase another pigeon at a later date and be entered into the Final Race under your name or syndicate. So as you can see it is “BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY” and pay for them early, after all you have nothing to lose. HOW MANY OTHER RACES IN THE WORLD OFFER THIS OPTION TO COMPETITORS AND ENTRANTS?

*****ACTIVATION OF YOUR RESERVES***** Please get in touch with me as soon as possible on 01279-812005 or my mobile 07860-568216 or email reglofts@aol.com and tell me which ones you want to “ACTIVATE”. If you want all your pigeons to be eligible to fly for all the “Special Prize Money” and “Special Awards” during the 5 x CAR RACES, then it really is advisable to do them before the CAR RACE 1 but if not it can be done anytime up to CAR RACE 5, or two weeks after this race. After that date these “UN-ACTIVATED” pigeons will be offered for sale on the SCMDPR web site. See above for information as you really have nothing to lose.

*****SOME INTERESTING FACTS FOR FANCIERS THAT HAVE ENTERED THIS RACE***** Many fanciers are very concerned and have been asking why there are such massive losses so far this year when the pigeons have not yet even reached the 100 mile stage. The main reason seems to be the extremely hot and harsh temperatures, humidity and lack of rain during the first few weeks of training and into the racing series. The last thing that the Race Organisers, Air Sport Internationale want to do is lose fanciers pigeons but sometimes of course it is something like the weather that is completely out of their control that is the biggest problem. As we all know these athletes of the skies have to be trained otherwise they will not be ready or fit enough to take on the tasks in front of them during the next three months. Just to give you an idea on what has happened so far with the same team in charge as for the 2009/10 race series, a record 6,613 pigeons were originally entered and now after weeks of training, 2 x Pre Training Races and 3 x Training Races plus a CAR RACE 1 from 87 miles, a total of 3,605 pigeons (54.51%) still remain in the lofts, which actually means a loss so far of 3,008 pigeons (45.49%). If you look at last years figure the SCMDPR had an entry of 5,610 pigeons and managed to get 3,082 pigeons (54.93%) to the Final Race after nearly four months of hard training. This 2010/11 race series is much tougher as we can all see by the results and losses so far. All we can really hope for is for it to start to cool down, so that the pigeons have a better chance of making it back to the lofts in Sun City, whilst at the same time getting enough time on the wing and experience they will need to complete the Final Race from 348 miles on Saturday 22nd January 2011. I received an email after the CAR RACE 1 from Corrie Naude, one of the Loft Managers at Sun City who also confirms it is also his opinion the weather that is causing the losses as the pigeons themselves are in perfect health which has recently been confirmed by Dr. Marthinus Hartman and his team from the University of Onderstepoort. Also Henk De Weerd (World Renowned Dutch Pigeon Veterinary Surgeon) was on holiday in South Africa and visited the lofts on the 3rd November as he has pigeons entered into this race and he also stated the pigeons in the lofts were all in perfect health and in excellent condition. The training of these pigeons is essential as most of us understand so that they build up the necessary experience and also their fitness as the distance increases to be able to achieve their final goal. One thing is for sure the team in charge are probably the most experienced in the world today and from past experience they have shown that but when the South African extreme heat and humidity are a factor, plus lack of rain then this really is out of their control. The only thing we can all hope for is that it starts to cool down soon before to many more pigeons are lost. It has always been the policy of ASI and the Race Committee to get as many pigeons to the race as possible and that will never change but as anybody knows that enters these one loft races around the world once they are liberated and in the sky, there is nothing anybody can do to make sure they all get home as the weather will generally dominate and usually have the last word. One thing is for sure that those pigeons that do reach the Final Race will certainly be up for that task and ready to negotiate anything in front of them.

GOOD LUCK to all concerned in TRAINING RACE 4, which takes place on Wednesday 10th November from 50 miles, followed by CAR RACE 2 on Saturday 13th November from Sannieshof 115 miles back to Sun City.
