Fermoy - 20/08/11

The East Down Combine was formed in 1967 and caters for pigeons fanciers within the County of Down in Northern Ireland. There are currently 22 clubs with approx 200 members sending a birdage of up to 5,000 pigeons each week. The Combine is currently spilt into 2 Section with a line running North to South creating an East to West Section. The membership currently race for 40 Open positions and 20 Section positions on a weekly basis. The Combine is affiliated to The Irish Homing Union Regulating and Promoting the Sport of Pigeon Racing in Ireland since 1895. This week the pigeons where in Fermoy for the sixth young bird race the birds where liberated at 11.00am with a light south wind the winner this week for first club first open was the partnership of Bill Mackey & Albert Lockhart their winning bird a blue cock flew the 187miles in 3 hours 23 minutes to record a velocity of 1621.3ypm runner up for second club 5th open was the partnership of Colin & Dorothy Smyth with a blue cock on 1594.5ypm. Congratulations to Steven & Aaron Casement on winning Newtownbreda to record their first club win and second open well done lads keep it up.
