“RULE BRITANNIA”, UNITED KINGDOM TEAM HAS A TRULY FANTASTIC RACE IN CAR RACE HOT SPOT 1 AND “FLIES THE FLAG” AND WINS 1st , 5th, 12th, 18th, 21st, 24th, 31st, 44th, 49th, 52nd, 70th, 87th & 96th OPEN, PLUS WINNING A BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR, THE US$2,000 TWO BIRD AVERAGE AND NO LESS THAN SIX OF THE US$1,000 HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES.

A further week of daily training under their belts and the official basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web site on Friday 25th November 2011 for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 1, which was due to take place on Saturday 26th November from 196km (approx. 122 miles) and this showed a total of 4,462 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,786 International, which included 343 from the United Kingdom and 47 from Ireland, plus 676 pigeons from South Africa. The transporters left Sun City at 21-00 on Friday evening and arrived at the race point at 04-00 Saturday morning, the lights were switched on inside the transporters and the drinkers were filled. The liberation then took place at 05-30 in fine and clear conditions, 18c (65f), with little to no wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director). According to a fancier that was present at the liberation the pigeons cleared in about 20 seconds. It should also be mentioned that earlier in the week over 75mm (3 inches) of rain had fallen in some areas, where as the week before temperatures were soaring to a staggering 42c (approx. 112f). This just gives fanciers all over the world an idea to what these athletes of the skies have to put up with during this testing race series.

CONGRATULATIONS on winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to N+A EVANS and CUTHBERT from the UNITED KINGDOM with pigeon named BURNTOFT SYDNEE which was officially clocked at 07-53-58.65 to record 1492ypm (51mph), 2nd Open went to Team Matilda from Australia and bred by Graham Worrington, 3rd Open to Club Crusaders RPC from South Africa, 4th Open to Sudhoff + Van Beers from Germany, who bred CHAMPION BIRDY which was the OVERALL ACE PIGEON a few years ago and then sold for a staggering £53,000, 5th Open to Guys Lofts from United Kingdom, 6th Open to Andre Carelsen from South Africa, 7th Open to German Champions from Germany, 8th Open to Gaddin Bros and Charl Stander from South Africa, 9th Open to Team Allen Voraus from Germany, 10th Open to Manfred Tihen from Germany, 11th Open to Kotze and Spammer from South Africa, 12th Open to Manchester Maestros from United Kingdom, 13th Open to Eldorado Lofts Canada from Canada, 14th Open to Jassim Al-Kulaib from Kuwait, 15th Open to Gallo and Placeta Loft from United States Of America, 16th Open to Harry Gerrits from Germany, 17th Open to Club Golden Reef Pigeon Association from South Africa, 18th Open to Signalman from United Kingdom, 19th Open to Team SG Jung - Jupid from Germany and then 20th Open to Gemsag Canaeries from South Africa. These top 20 pigeons were all clocked within 11.65 seconds of the race winner and 4 different countries were represented in the top 20. The top 4 pigeons were all entries from different countries. The top 50 pigeons were all clocked within 1 minute 32.65 seconds of the race winner and the top 100 pigeons were all clocked within 1 minute 15.45 seconds of the race winner. A total of 3,769 pigeons were officially recorded by 08-41, which was 46 minutes after the race winner, then 4,144 by 10-04, then 4,208 by 10-55, then 4,307 finally making it on the day by 18-59, leaving 155 pigeons still to make it back to the lofts. The clock was left on to record pigeons on Sunday and they started rolling in from 06-02 and 4,389 were home by 12-20 and finally 4,403 had returned by 18-25, leaving just 59 to make it back to base camp. The Monday afternoon loft list showed 4,474 pigeons had returned back to lofts in Sun City, so this must mean a few lost pigeons have returned from earlier races, which is always good to see, especially for those fanciers that thought they were lost forever.

*** BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR WINNER*** for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 1 went to NEVILLE+ANGIE EVANS & STEVE CUTHBERT from UNITED KINGDOM who took 1st OPEN with their pigeon named BURNTOFT SYDNEE. This was actually the fourth time that a fancier from the United Kingdom has won a brand new car since they were introduced a few years ago. The Irish have also won one a brand new car around two years ago.

***TWO BIRD AVERAGE WINNER & US$2,000 CASH PRIZE*** also went to NEVILLE+ANGIE EVANS & STEVE CUTHBERT from UNITED KINGDOM whose two pigeons BURNTOFT SYDNEE and BURNTOFT SPENCER took 1st & 110th OPEN. *** TWENTY US$1,000 HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES*** were taken by ACTIVATED pigeons in the top 24 in the Open result. The UNITED KINGDOM TEAM had their best result ever and walked off with six of these US$1,000 (£667) cash prizes. However once again four pigeons that actually took 3rd, 11th, 13th & 22nd were NOT ACTIVATED so could not win any of the US$1,000 cash prizes. So pigeons that actually took 21st, 23rd & 24th Open walked away with a bonus US$1,000 cash prize and luckily for the United Kingdom the pigeons that took 21st OPEN for PREMIER STUD UK SYNDICATE and 24th OPEN for P and D CLARKE won one of these special cash prizes. It just goes to show how important it is to ACTIVATE all your RESERVE PIGEONS. YET ANOTHER FANTASTIC TEAM PERFORMANCE BY THE UNITED KINGDOM FANCIERS.
