THE 16th SUN CITY MILLION DOLLAR
(THE RACE WITH THE PROVEN TRACK RECORD)
(THE GREATEST PIGEON RACE IN THE WORLD)
DUE TO BE HELD IN SUN CITY, SOUTH AFRICA ON
SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012.

REPORT ON TRAINING RACES 12 & 13.


A further week of daily training under their belts and the official basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web site on Friday 2nd December 2011 for TRAINING RACE 12, which was due to take place on Saturday 3rd December from 131km (approx. 82 miles) and this showed a total of 4,452 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,787 International, which included 351 from the United Kingdom and 47 from Ireland, plus 665 pigeons from South Africa. The liberation took place at 05-30 in fine and clear conditions, 18c (65f), with little to no wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).

CONGRATULATIONS on winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to JUERGEN DREIS from GERMANY the with pigeon named TRITON which was officially clocked at 07-10-04.20 to record 1443ypm (49mph), 2nd Open went to Kerr Clan from Australia, 3rd Open to LYC Loft from United States Of America, 4th Open to Crammond and Langstaff from United Kingdom, 5th Open to Italian Champions Group from Italy, 6th Open to Byron C Weaver from United States Of America, this pigeon named Gary Owen is leading the Sun City overall averages at the current time, 7th Open to Club South Western Pigeon Combine from South Africa, 8th Open to Team Elze from Germany, 9th Open to Team Westenholz from Germany, 10th Open to Tomasz Wiczling from Poland, 11th Open to Manchester Maestros from United Kingdom, 12th Open to Zbigniew Kowalczyk from Poland, 13th Open to Syndicate Lofts UK from United Kingdom, 14th Open to Sue Bennett from United Kingdom, 15th Open to Team Ruhr Stahl – Bobner from Germany, 16th Open to Team Sylt 2000 – Goebel-Varney from Germany, 17th Open to Lady Pinguin from Belgium, 18th Open to Team Cora from Germany, 19th Open to Team SG Jung – Jupid from Germany and then 20th Open to Theodor Backs from Germany. These top 20 pigeons were all clocked within 31.25 seconds of the race winner and 7 different countries were represented in the top 10 with the top 5 all going to entries from different countries. The top 50 pigeons were all clocked within 44.75 seconds of the race winner and the top 100 pigeons were all clocked within 54.80 seconds of the race winner. A total of 22 pigeons were officially recorded by 07-11, then 2,548 by 07-21, then 4,126 by 07-51, then 4,238 by 08-11 and then finally 4,352 making it on the day by 19-08, leaving exactly 100 pigeons still to make it back to the lofts. The clock was left on to record pigeons on Sunday and they started rolling bright and early and 4,401 were home by 17-10, leaving just 51 to make it back to base camp. The Monday afternoon loft list showed 4,414 pigeons had returned, which left only 38 to make it back to lofts in Sun City.

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st UNITED KINGDOM, 4th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to CRAMMOND and LANGSTAFF and with pigeon named FONTWELL JET bred by this great partnership from FONTWELL which was clocked at 07-10-12.85, just 08.65 seconds behind the actual race winner, 2nd UK, 11th Open to Manchester Maestros with their consistent pigeon named Nosey Nestmate which was bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford, 3rd UK, 13th Open to Syndicate Lofts UK with another pigeon that has been flying well and bred by Peter Fox from Bangor, 4th UK, 14th Open to Sue Bennett from Darlington with a pigeon bred for her by Jimmy Richards from Laindon, 5th UK, 52nd Open to SJD Syndicate administered by Paul & Roland Stokes from Broughton Astley and with pigeon that has already scored a few times in this race series and bred by John Dearden from Rochdale, 6th UK, 55th Open to Team Islwyn entered by Elfed Weaver from Port Talbot and with pigeon bred by Robert Jones, 7th UK, 79th Open to Guys Lofts with pigeon bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton, 8th UK, 106th Open another for Manchester Maestros with another pigeon that has scored quite a few times in this race series and also bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford, 9th UK, 109th Open to Gribbles Choice and bred by Phillip Bond from Torquay, winner of the 2011 RPRA One Loft Race and £20,000, 10th UK, 110th Open another for Crammond and Langstaff from Fontwell, 11th UK, 115th Open to Premier Stud UK Syndicate, administered by Paul Smith from Stansted Mountfitchet and with a pigeon bred by Premier Stud from Patringham Haven, 12th UK, 117th Open another for Guys Lofts and again bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton, whose pigeons are once again flying exceptionally well in this race series, 13th UK, 121st Open to Waldron Lofts, with pigeon bred by Graham Watkinson from Skelmersdale, this pigeon has also been flying well in recent races, 14th UK, 126th Open another for Premier Stud UK Syndicate with another pigeon bred by Premier Stud from Patringham Haven, 15th UK, 132nd Open to Champion Fribbo with a pigeon bred by Lee Fribbins from Colchester, who is the Editor of The Racing Pigeon and the monthly Pictorial, his team of 3 pigeons has also been flying well over the past few weeks, 16th UK, 136th Open to Dluk – Dickmann – Stroetges, entered by Mark Williams from North Wales, with pigeon bred by Mr & Mrs Dickmann- Stroetges from Holland, 17th UK, 138th Open to Geordie Boys – UNC with a pigeon bred by Ian Stafford from Tyne & Wear, whose pigeons have scored numerous time in this race series, 18th UK, 157th Open to Gray and Fannan from York with a pigeon bred by C. Vasey, 19th UK, 157th Open to Fenlands Lofts with a pigeon bred by Darren Peters from East Heckington and then 20th UK, 164th Open to Finghall Lofts from and with pigeon bred by Keith Thompson from Doncaster.
Another great result for the United Kingdom Team and a total of 4 UK pigeons were officially clocked by 07-11, then 205 by 07-21, 326 by 07-51, then 332 by 08-11 and then 340 by nightfall at 19-08, which meant 11 were still missing. The clock was left on during Sunday and 345 had been officially clocked by 17-10 leaving just 6 to return to the lofts. A total of 347 UK pigeons were on the Monday loft list.

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st IRELAND, 103rd OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” goes to BERNARD SMYTH with his good pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE which was clocked at 07-10-59.80, just 55-60 seconds behind the race winner, 2nd Ireland, 185thth Open another for Bernard Smyth with his other good pigeon named Conor G which is the leading the Irish Overall Averages at the current time, 3rd Ireland, 494th Open to Maurice O’Donnell, 4th Ireland, 501st Open to Finbars, 5th Ireland, 653rd Open to Fays and 6th Ireland, 666th Open to The Green Team. A good team result for the Irish Team who had just 25 pigeon clocked by 07-21, then 45 by 07-51 and 46 by nightfall, which meant just 1 pigeon were still missing. This pigeon was clocked on Sunday morning at 06-29 making 47 in total and a 100% return.

GLOBAL NOMINATION for TRAINING RACE 12 showed a total of 344 pigeons entered and with 1,084 nominations and this included 31 United Kingdom and 3 Irish pigeons and flying for a total of US$8,142-15c (approx. £5,428).
The UNITED KINGDOM Team members did well and MANCHESTER MAESTROS took 4th OPEN with pigeon named NOSEY NESTMATE and bred by CREHAN & O’CONNOR from SALFORD and he walked off with a cool US$3,111 (approx. £2,075), these fanciers are having a great run at the moment and have picked up some great cash prizes over the past few races. Keep it up lads, great to see you have the confidence to gamble on your team of pigeons against the best in the world. Guys Lofts took 79th Open with his pigeon named Grahams Choice and bred by Graham Guy from Wolverhampton and this pigeon won US$322.15c (approx. £215), this pigeon has also been picking up Nomination money on a fairly regular basis. I hope this pigeon keeps on winning for you. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.

UNITED KINGDOM REGIONAL NOMINATIONS for TRAINING RACE 12 showed only 4 pigeons being entered and 14 nominations and a total of US$76-50c (approx. £51) and it was all won by GUYS LOFTS who took 79th OPEN pigeon named GRAHAMS CHOICE bred by GRAHAM GUY from WOLVERHAMPTON, which has already won a fair bit on Nomination money in earlier races. CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS FANCIER.

The CASCADE CHALLENGE was a new competition introduced two years ago and it has created a great deal of interest. It is basically a SINGLE PIGEON NOMINATION and any pigeon can be entered for just US$10 (approx. £6.50p) but the “POT OF GOLD” can only be won if one of these nominated pigeons actually wins 1st OPEN, if not it is like the National Lottery, it just rolls over to the following nomination race or until somebody finally wins the jackpot. You do not have to enter the same pigeon in every nomination race, the choice is yours.

CASCADE CHALLENGE for TRAINING RACE 12 showed a total of US$4,091 (approx. £2,728) and had attracted 114 nominations which included 12 from the United Kingdom and 2 from Ireland. The “POT OF GOLD” in this race was not won and this sum will now be carried over to CAR RACE HOT SOT 2. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon took 79th OPEN for GUYS LOFTS with pigeon named GRAHAMS CHOICE bred by GRAHAM GUY from WOLVERHAMPTON. The first IRISH took 185th OPEN for BERNARD SMYTH with his pigeon named CONOR G. CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH THESE FANCIERS.

The SUN CITY OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 13 races shows as follows:- 1st to BRYON C WEAVER from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named GARY OWEN which has a combined flying time of 16-35-09.82 and is currently leading this classification by 16 minutes and 33 seconds. There are currently 6 different countries represented in the top 10 with 6 different countries taking the top 6 places. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon holds 4th and was entered by P and D. CLARKE with a pigeon named DANNY C, which was bred by P & D. CLARKE from SEVENASH which is currently leading this classification by just 28 minutes and 41 seconds. The UK team actually have 10 pigeons in the top 93 in this classification. The first IRISH pigeon holds 284th Open and belongs to BERNARD SMYTH with his pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE, which is currently leading this classification by 44 minutes and 28 seconds. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.

GOOD LUCK to all concerned in TRAINING RACE 13 which takes place on Wednesday 7th December from 81km (51 miles) when around 4,422 pigeons are expected to be competing.

More daily training on Monday and Tuesday for those that were fit enough and then the basketing list appeared on the web site later on Tuesday 6th December for TRAINING RACE 13 which was due to take place on Wednesday 7th December from 81km (51 miles) and this showed a total of 4,422 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,762 International, which included 353 from the United Kingdom and 47 from Ireland, plus 660 pigeons from South Africa. Liberation took place at 06-30 in cool and partly cloudy conditions, little to no wind and with a temperature of 19c (67f) and a steady race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director).

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st OPEN and “FLYING THE FLAG FOR THEIR COUNTRY” went to JOCHEN HUENTEN from GERMANY with pigeon named NOBOS 1 V, which was clocked at 07-23-02.31 to record 1693ypm (57mph), 2nd Open to Club Benzing RPC Pretoria from South Africa, 3rd Open to Kitchenbrand Lofts from South Africa, this loft won 1st Open in the 2011 SCMDPR, 4th Open to Protege Loft from United States Of America, 5th Open to B De Kock from South Africa, 6th Open to Syndicate Lofts UK from United Kingdom, 7th Open to Team Germany – Bremen-Waldow from Germany, 8th Open to CR Rounds from United States Of America, 9th Open to Josef Lang from Germany, 10th Open to Brough – Dr Meyer from South Africa, 11th Open to Familie Sosnik from Germany, 12th Open to Saad Alqanem from Kuwait, 13th Open to Koopman Racing Team from Netherlands, 14th Open to Juergen Stefaniszyn from Germany, 15th Open to Bernard Smyth frim Ireland, 16th Open to Kozak Group from Poland, 17th Open to Italian Champions Group from Italy, 18th Open to Theodor Backs from Germany, 19th Open to Werner Buchloh from Germany and then 20th Open to Glendas Loft from South Africa. These top 20 pigeons were all officially clocked within 24.72 seconds of the race winner with 4 different countries being represented in this top 20 with the top 50 all clocked within 49.72 seconds of the race winner and the top 100 were all clocked within 1 minute 15.65 seconds of the winning pigeon. A total of 754 pigeons were officially clocked by 07-27, then 3,856 by 07-47, then 4,293 by 08-50, then 4,307 by 09-05, then 4,322 by 13-04 and then finally 4,337 officially recorded by 17-48 leaving 85 pigeons still to make it back to base camp by nightfall.

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st UNITED KINGDOM, 6th OPEN and ”FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to SYNDICATE LOFTS UK with consistent pigeon named PIPER that has already won 253rd, 119th, 281st, 58th, 27th, 53rd, 360th and now 6th Open in this race series, bred by PETER FOX from BANGOR which was clocked at 07-23-08.23, just 05.92 seconds behind the actual race winner, Peter Fox won 6th Open in the Final Race a few years ago and always more than holds his own in each race series, usually scoring quite a few times, 2nd UK, 27th Open to Stretton Family, 3rd UK, 30th Open to Ken Darlington from Barry, who won the 2010 Europa Classic One Loft Race, 4th UK, 50th Open to Carlos Dream Syndicate, administered by Paul Smith from Stansted Mountfitchet, with a pigeon bred by Jos Reilly from Ireland, 5th UK, 57th Open to Crammond and Langstaff from Fontwell, this partnership had a fantastic season on 2011 and actually won 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th OPEN NATIONAL FLYING CLUB, which is a record in this great organisation, 6th UK, 60th Open to Manchester Maestros with their excellent pigeon bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford, 7th UK, 67th Open to Johnny May, 8th UK, 71st Open another for Manchester Maestros, also bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford, 9th UK, 80th Open to Premier Stud UK Syndicate, administered by Paul Smith and with their consistent pigeon that won US$1,000 cash prize in Car Race Hot Spot 1 and is bred by Premier Stud, Patringham Haven, 10th UK, 85th Open to Oakley Wombles with pigeon bred by A. Smith from Ashbourne, 11th UK, 98th Open another for Premier Stud UK Syndicate with another pigeon that is performing well and was bred by Premier Stud from Patringham Haven, 12th UK, 105th Open to P and D Clarke from Sevenash, 13th UK, 108th Open to Bellchambers and bred by Derek Bellchambers from Brentford, 14th UK, 115th Open another for Crammond and Langstaff from Fontwell, whose pigeons are flying very well in this race series, this pigeon won 1st UK, 4th Open in the previous race, 15th UK, 123rd Open to Syndicate Beacon UK, entered by Ian Parsons and with pigeon bred by T. A. Martin, 16th UK, 139th Open to Gray and Fannan from York with another consistent pigeon bred by C. Vasey, 17th UK, 166th Open to Jurgen & Caroline Josch from Hailsham who always fly a good pigeon in one loft races, 18th UK, 173rd Open to N+A Evans + Cuthbert from Wolviston, this partnership won 11th Open in the 2010 SCMDPR and have just won a Brand New Motor Car for 1st Open in CAR RACE HOT SPOT 1 in this race series, 19th UK, 174th Open to Mannor Lofts with pigeon bred by Mr & Mrs. Norman from Southampton and then 20th UK, 183rd Open to SJD Syndicate, administered by Paul & Roland Stoke from Broughton Astley and with a pigeon that has been scoring consistently and bred by John Dearden from Rochdale. Another really fantastic result for the United Kingdom Team. A total of 64 UK pigeons were clocked by 07-27, then 310 by 07-47, then 345 by 08-49, then 345 by 09-05 and then finally 346 pigeons were officially recorded by 17-48, leaving still 7 to make it back home to base camp on the day.

CONGRATULATIONS for winning 1st IRELAND, 15th OPEN and “FLYING THE NATIONAL FLAG” went to BERNARD SMYTH with his consistent pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE which was clocked at 07.23-20.6, just 18.05 seconds after the race winner, 2nd Ireland, 68th Open to Philip + Mark Smith, 3rd Ireland, 153rd Open to Paul Poole and Son, 4th Ireland, 158th Open another for Bernard Smyth, 5th Ireland, 353rd Open to Finbars and then 6th Ireland, 480th Open to Maurice O’Donnell. Another good result for the Irish Team. A total of 8 Irish pigeons were clocked by 07-27, then 44 by 07-45 and then finally all 47 were officially clocked by 08-46.



The SUN CITY OVERALL GRAND AVERAGES after 14 races shows as follows:- 1st to BYRON C WEAVER from UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with pigeon named GARY OWEN with a combined flying time of 17-30-48.60 and leading this classification by 15 minutes 13 seconds. There are a total of 6 different countries represented in the top 10, in fact 6 different countries hold the first 6 positions in this category. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon is currently holds 5th and belongs to P and D CLARKE with pigeon named DANNY C and was bred by P and D CLARKE from SEVENASH and it is leading this classification by 22 minutes 53 seconds. It was interesting to note that 10 UK pigeons held positions in the top 83 which is quite an achievement in a race such as this. The first IRISH pigeon is currently holds 245th and belongs to BERNARD SMYTH with pigeon named BOOTS GRANDE and is leading this classification by 47 minutes 15 seconds. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.

*****THE FOLLOWING RACE PROGRAMME***** Saturday 10th December CAR RACE HOT SPOT 2 from 270km (168 miles), then on Wednesday 14th December Training Race 14 from 80km (50 miles), then on Saturday 17th December CAR RACE HOT SPOT 3 from 300km (187 miles), then on Wednesday 21st December Training Race 15 from 80km (50 miles), then on Saturday 24th December Training Race 16 from 130km (81 miles), then on THURSDAY 29th December we have CAR RACE HOT SPOT 4 from 345km (215 miles), then on Saturday 31st December Training Race 17 from 130km (81 miles). Then into the year of 2012 and on Wednesday 4th January Training Race 18 from 80km (50 miles), then on Saturday 7th January CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5 from 390km (243 miles), then on Wednesday 11th January Training Race 19 from 50km (31 miles), then on Saturday 14th January Training Race 20 from 80km (50 miles), then on Wednesday 18th January Training Race 21 from 80km (50 miles), then on Saturday 21st January Training Race 22 from 130km (81 miles) and then of course “THE FINAL RACE” will take place on Saturday 28th January 2012 from 550km (342 miles). Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all of these races to take place on the appointed days, if not they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is favourable and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has always been to get as many pigeons to the “FINAL RACE” on 28th January as possible and give all fanciers/competitors/entrants a fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”. Only races of 50km (approx. 31 miles) will count towards the Sun City Overall ACE PIGEON Averages, which has a total of three cash prizes of US$10,000 (approx. £6,666), US$5,000 (approx. £3,333) and US$2,500 (approx. £1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this category.

It now looks like the proposed race date for the 17th Sun City Million Dollar Pigeon Race, which had been arranged and fixed for Saturday 26th January 2013 will now take place on Saturday 2nd February 2013, as the FCI Pigeon Olympiad in Slovakia has now been arranged on this date. I will confirm details when I received them from Air Sport Internationale.
