The Annual General Meeting of the RPRA (Irish Region) will be held in the Clarion Hotel, 75 Belfast Road, Carrickfergus on Saturday 4th February starting at 1.00pm. If any member wishes to be on the INFC Committee please attend the RPRA Annual General Meeting to be nominated. The only new club listed for membership and which has been advertised without objection are Blackwater Town Westend HPS, Secretary Maurice Weir.
Following the AGM there will be a Region Delegates meeting and then at 3.00pm a General & Appeal Committee meeting. Under Any other business we have the closing date for RPRA Awards down for discussion. Another major item is electing the RPRA Delegates and making decisions on the various resolutions set for the RPRA meeting to be held in Coventry at the end of February. Just 125 changes to be looked at this time.
The Irish Region like most of the others intend to hold a Jubilee Race, details of which are to be decided at the AGM. The Secretary Robert Reid has asked members to bring forward items for discussion regarding Race Point, prizes etc so decisions can be made. Clubs are also asked to pass on the names of members that have resigned or had a Clearance Sale in the club during 2011. Looks like another very interesting, long day.

Re: RPRA (Irish Region) - AGM in Carrick
The Annual General Meeting of the RPRA (Irish Region) was held in the Clarion Hotel, Carrickfergus last Saturday 4th February starting at 1.00pm. The attendance was slightly better than usual and East Antrim was well represented.
Arrangements had been made to present the awards for 2011, the best in each Region is nominated and the winners collect the awards at the Gala Evening held during the Blackpool Show weekend. Sammy Thompson collected the awards for young Ian Horner who was unable to attend, and these were presented on Saturday.

President Sammy Thompson (l) presents the Guy Barrett Trophy
to Ian Horner of Springvale Social.
RPRA Awards 2011 Season – Young Fanciers
Each year the RPRA accepts nominations from the Regions for four categories, Short, Middle and Long Distance and the Guy Barrett Trophy which is awarded to the young fancier considered the most outstanding overall, both on performance and attitude to the sport. For the 2011 season the winners were as follows.
Middle Distance 251 – 450 mile
Third in this category was Ian Horner from Ballyclare. Ian’s two year old hen scored twice at club level, taking the Red Card once. Ian receives a medallion and £20. Ian unfortunately can’t be with us tonight but Sammy Thompson of the Irish Region is here to pick up his award on his behalf.
The Guy Barrett Trophy
The Guy Barrett trophy - The winner in this category is always difficult to select as it is not just based on performances but on how the young fancier helps at the club and behaves in general. The winner for 2011 is Ian Horner from Ballyclare. Ian’s club Springvale Social nominated him for the award and said ‘He is one of the few genuine young fanciers racing today.’ As well as good performance he also helps at the club and maintains the ETS System for all club members. Well done Ian!
The Irish Region usually put forward a number of claims unfortunately 2011 season was not one of the best but we did get placed in the Adult Short Distance, G & M Atcheson from Ligoniel took third. My many thanks to the RPRA General Manager Stewart Wardrop , for his assistance with the info.
RPRA Awards 2011 Season
The adult awards are also based on the short, middle and long distance categories. In addition there are two other trophies. The Tony Cornwell Memorial Trophy, awarded to the best all round performance of a pigeon over the season and the Massarella Trophy for the best performance by a young bird.
Short Distance 0 – 250 miles
Third prize went to G & M Atcheson from Belfast with a two year old cock which scored five times on the south road in 2011. At then end of May their pigeon was first club, first section and ninth open against 17,163 birds. They win a medallion and a cheque for £40.

Irish Region (RPRA) Meeting in Carrickfergus -
One of the items discussed at the recent AGM for the RPRA (Irish Region) was the Queens Diamond Jubilee Race and it was decided a race would be flown from Penzance open to all the RPRA Members in Ireland. The total prize fund has been set at £5,000 with the winner lifting a cool £1,000, a fantastic prize. The race will be in conjunction with the NIPA, they transport all the birds anyhow, entry is free and limited to a maximum of five entries per loft. John & Jay Tranter have supplied a Loft for a Nomination Prize, tickets are available from The Reddings at £1 each (max 5), something extra for the RPRA members to be thinking about. At the recent RPRA Council Meeting it was agreed that each local RPRA Region would be allocated free advertising for their race with 25 Diplomas printed for the winners and presentation Framed Photo for the overall winner. The Irish Region Committee will meet this Saturday 10th March at 1.30pm in the Clarion Hotel, 75 Belfast Road, Carrickfergus to set details for the race in place, more details will be published following that meeting.

Penzance Race for RPRA (Irish Region) Diamond Jubilee -
The main item on the agenda at the recent Committee Meeting of the RPRA (Irish Region) held at the Clarion Hotel in Carrickfergus was the arrangements for the Queens Diamond Jubilee Race. Entry for the RPRA event is free limited to 5 Birds only per member/partnership. It will be flown in conjunction with the NIPA Penzance a one day race flown on Saturday 23rd June. As far a possible the race will be managed by the RPRA Committee who will nominate a list of fanciers to cover each area of the country both for collecting the Entry Form and after the race the Verification Cards. Full details will be published and it is hoped to have the Entry Form included in the NIPA Race Booklet. Those outside the NIPA can work through their own area contact and remember the Prize Money is £5,000 with £1,000 to the winner of 1st Open. The Irish Region intend to publish the full result in the BHW. For the first time I can remember the RPRA Council Delegates gave a report of the recent meetings they attended including the AGM. I will leave the fine detail report to the PO Steve McGarry, any queries on the Jubilee Race contact any of the officials.
