Aughafatten Lofts win 1st Combine from Clonmel -

Very interesting last weekend, firstly the race changed from Pilmore Beach to Fermoy and then with the birds en-route diverted to Clonmel because of a weather report for County Cork. We had an early liberation as well with the strings cut at 8.00am and with a helping Lt Southerly wind the leading birds took around 3 hours for the 180 mile flight to Mid Antrim. Alistair Purvis wins for the fifth time in the Broughshane & Dist recording velocity he takes 1st Mid Antrim Combine over 2,200 birds competing and will be well placed again in the East Antrim Sect C. Next best were lofts in Rasharkin & Dist, W & J McLean broke Novice Status followed by Steele & McNeill who had a good card with a small team. The McLean loft race in Sect A, their widowhood cock was timed at 11.06am flying 189 miles. Roy Clements was best in Ballymena taking 1st Harryville HPS (1781) while Paddy McManus had the Card of the Day again for the second week, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th in Ahoghill with the winner doing velocity 1747.

Cullybackey Centre: Arrangements for the NIPA Yearling Cock & Hen National are as follows. Entry fee’s, and club cheques to be paid in Cullybackey on Thursday 6th June between 8.30pm and 9.00pm. Individual cheque required for each race, one cock and one hen. Birds to be race marked in Cullybackey on Friday 7th June between 2.00pm and 4.30pm, clocks ready after transporter leaves the site.

Ballymena 2 Bird Club – 1st & 2nd G & A Eagleson, G Gilmour ABCD & Nom, W & J Smyth ABCD. A great win today for big Geoff Gilmour. Racing only a handful of pigeons every week and seldom out of the prizes, he finally gets the Red Card. Geoff races the birds on widowhood and the breeding of the cock is Soontjen with the parents coming from club-mate Jim Harris. Congratulations on your first ever win in the club, I hope there are many more to follow.

The weekend race was flown from Clonmel, an early liberation at 8.00am was the order of the day, sunshine and a helping wind over the race route. Winners made light work of the conditions and a number of lofts up in the North West were well placed in the NIPA results. Best of the lot were the ace racers Diamond Bros who came very close to top place, best in the Coleraine Triangle, 3rd Sect A and 4th Open NIPA with over 23,000 birds competing. Others well placed in the local area included Hanson & Harpur, Russell McAlary and J L Madden. Terence McCrudden had 1st Coleraine & Co Derry (1781) and R & J Parke had 1st Windsor Social (1767).

At the weekend the East Antrim birds were competing from Clonmel, liberation was at the early time of 8.00am and with sunshine and a helping wind over the route the birds made light work of the journey to home lofts. “Big Audrey” was best of the lot timed by J & A Wilson & Sons of Doagh & District recording velocity 1802. Next best is Alistair Purvis of Broughshane & Dist, his bird wins 2nd Sect C for the second time. Mr & Mrs Brian McNeilly of Doagh are nest best and take 3rd & 4th in East Antrim Sect C. Rea & Magill of the Horseshoe HPS are best in Larne, what a season this loft is having, Crawford & Robinson have 1st & 2nd in the big Larne & District where over 850 birds were competing. Best in Carrickfergus is the D & J Armstrong & Son team, four wins on the trot in Carrick Social, fantastic racing.

1st Open NIPA won by W G Neill of Annaghmore -

The NIPA Open was topped by Willie Neill of Annaghmore, a loft that needs no introduction with a host of massive results over recent seasons. Steve McGarry called at the loft over the weekend and got a photo and some brief detail. The yearling Blue cock has been named Champion “Speedy Kyle” and flown on the lofts unique Roundabout System, bloodlines are the best of the loft. 1st Sect E and 1st Open NIPA will add nicely to the lofts growing CV. Congratulations lads on a great result.

Another fanstatic weekend result for Glen Smith of Cookstown, he timed his Champion “Adams Boy”, a 2 year old Blue cock. Sire obtained from the best of David Calvin, Bondhill and the dam Ray Forbes Soontjen. This pigeon was also a winner as a young bird and has many other section positions. 2013 record to date for G & S Smith: 1st Tullamore Sect A 59/1365 - 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th. Kieran Shannon of Dungannon had another big weekend result and resorded a great result, 2nd in the Sect A and 3rd Open NIPA.
