The East Down Combine was formed in 1967 and caters for pigeons fanciers within the County of Down in Northern Ireland. There are currently 22 clubs with approx 200 members sending a birdage of up to 5,000 pigeons each week. The Combine is currently spilt into 2 Section with a line running North to South creating an East to West Section. The membership currently race for 40 Open positions and 20 Section positions on a weekly basis. The Combine is affiliated to The Irish Homing Union Regulating and Promoting the Sport of Pigeon Racing in Ireland since 1895. Skibbereen turned out a bit of an erratic race for whatever reason, overall winners were the high flying Gordon Bros & Sons from Cloughey 1st East Sect & 1st Open EDC on velocity 1491. Runner up the new partnership of Caskey & Adair from Crossgar, they have 1st West Sect & 2nd Open EDC doing velocity 1486.

The Talbenny YB Derby birds were released with the rest of the Irish Organisations including NIPA on Saturday 31st August in a Westerly wind. It was a similar sort of a race experienced by the rest, hard going in the headwind conditions. The best birds were in the West Sect, K & B McConaghie & Son took 1st Open EDC doing velocity 1163 followed by club-mates in Ballylesson M & A Johnston. Best in the East Sect were D Croskery & Son of Annsborough, 3rd Open doing velocity 1136 followed by John McCartan of Annalong.
