Look who has hit the top of the NIPA in the weekend race from Mallow in County Cork, it’s the very same fancier but a different location. Having established a new site in the City of Newry the NIPA record breaker Ronnie Williamson who has won over 50 x 1st Open NIPA titles in Bondhill starts the new era on the Northern Ireland border. The Newry area have indeed a long history of success in the NIPA and by the look of it Mr Williamson intends to make it even better.

The Sect B was topped by the high flying Fleming Bros of Crumlin & District recording velocity 1503. This Blue w/f cock racing on widowhood is the same bird that won 1st Sect B two weeks previous from Roscrea and was 1st Sect last season in the 5 Bird Championship. It has been a bit unlucky as well as well as 3 x 1st Sect B awards he has 2 x 2nd Sect positions, beat by loft mates on both occasions. The sire a Blue w/f cock won 2 x 1st Sections and 1st Open NIPA and the dam was bred by Cromie & Magee of Dromara.

Tommy is one of the top racers in the NIPA and has won many Open and Section positions with his Widowhood cocks. The Sire of both birds was a gift from Allan McDonald and is a Smits Van Winckel from direct stock, he won 2nd Open in the NIPA and his full brother won 3 x 1sts including 7th North Section Skibbereen National. He already bred winners for Tommy who is one of the best racers in the NIPA . The dam of the Section winner is Koopman and was bred by J & C Cranston of Angelsey. The dam had already bred winners and was included in the partners Clearance Sale. The dam of the 8th Section is a daughter of Tommy's No 1 producer and is dam and grand-dam of at least 15 different prize-winners and was bred by Gerald Delaney, one of the now famous "Cream Crackers".

Delayed liberation in Mallow -
Following last week from the Clonmel race less than half the lofts competed this weekend from Mallow, race marking was delayed until Saturday and the convoy was eventually released in Mallow at 12.30pm on Sunday in a Lt Westerly wind. Kells were again favourites to do well and indeed they did with Davy Scott taking the first four positions. The winner for Scott & Clements was timed at 14.40hrs flying 212 miles to record velocity 1492, Jos Thone bloodlines from Ian Gill to collect 1st MAC. Next best was J & N Simpson 1st Broughshane & Dist (1484) and Martin Graham was best in Ballymena. Most of the birds were home this week. The MAC Champions League will be updated shortly. Cullybackey Centre: Details for the Rosscarbery Inl Nat race marking are as follows. Entry fees etc. with club cheque collect Wednesday 14th May from 8.30 - 9.30pm at the Cullybackey club rooms. Birds will be race marked 2.00 - 4.30pm on Friday 16th May. All clocks ready after lorry leaves Cullybackey. East Down delayed the race marking until Saturday and liberation in Mallow was at 10.20am on Sunday in a fresh Westerly wind. Mickey Croskery from Annsborough topped the Open doing velocity 1641 just ahead of 5 quick ones for Gordon Bros & Sons who had a great Card. C Laverty & Daughter from the Drumaness Mills topped the West Sect followed by M & A Johnston 1st Ballylesson and S & K Duke 1st Crossgar.
