Just sent this to the Editor of the BHW.......Lets see if its published
and if anything is answered!
Sir
We are all to aware of the growing issue with increasing numbers or BOP across the UK & Ireland that is having a detrimental impact on our sport. After seeing several comments and posts on Facebook sites relating to fanciers frustrations and disengagement following continued attacks on their birds I began thinking on how we can approach this problem legally whilst having the greatest impact.
My thoughts raised more questions than answers and I know this subject has been high on everyone's agenda in recent years. Therefore, I thought it best to share my thinking and perhaps some of your readers can feedback their opinions?
Have we as a joint organisation/organisations yet compiled and presented the government with a business case that demonstrates the Economic benefits of Pigeon Racing Vs the loss in revenue should the sport continue to decline? In addition, the amount of monies raised and presented to charities by the fancy on an ongoing bases.
The purchasing of feed, supplements, accessories, training/transportation of pigeons, administration of organisations, jobs created within the sport etc... all provide VAT to the Government.
Could our accountants within the RPRA/IHU/SHU/WHU not begin to work collaboratively to compile a robust business case to the Government that would clearly demonstrate the Economic benefits of the sport and the wider fancy?
Yours in Sport
Sean Wilson
