The race from Pilmore Beach, brought forward by one week was the 5th of the old bird inland season, racing to date has been excellent. For the last three weeks the entry has exceeded 26,000 birds and for the last two weeks 1st Open NIPA has been won by P & J Boal of Dromore.

Mid Antrim bird wins 1st Section -

Pilmore Beach was brought forward one week and was the 5th race of the old bird season, liberation was at 11.00am on Saturday 16th May in a Westerly wind. Best bird locally was Ballymena Old Hand Charlie McManus who just recently celebrated his birthday. His 2 year old Blue cock was timed at 2.57pm recording velocity 1582 for the 213 miles, he was bred by son Paddy of Croft Lofts in Ahoghill. He takes 1st in the MAC and 1st NIPA Section B, a most consistent loft always hard to beat. Just one yard behind last week’s 1st Sect winner from Corrin Surgenor Bros followed again by Scott & Clements. \"Gemma\" won 1st Club, 1st Mid Antrim Combine, 1st Section last week from Corrin. 1st Club, 2nd Mid Antrim Combine, 2nd Section this week Pilmore Beach for Jeff Surgenor of Kells, sire Leo van Rijn and dam Hartog.

Cullybackey Centre – The marking arrangements for the NIPA Rosscarbery Inl Nat, this weekend are as follows. Cullybackey HPS Clubrooms will be open on Wednesday 20th May between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to lift all the entry cheques from the local clubs. Birds will be race marked in Cullybackey on Friday 22nd May between 2.00pm and 4.30pm, clocks will be ready after transporter leaves around 6.00pm. Roscrea is the Comeback race, crates will be collected in Cullybackey at 7.00pm.

Pilmore Beach last weekend was the fifth race of the old bird season and in the last three events the NIPA entry has exceeded 26,000 birds. The weekend race was another good one with the birds released at 11.00am in a Westerly wind. It turned out another very steady event and East Antrim lofts were well placed as expected. The best birds locally were timed by A & E Bell in the Muckamore HPS, two birds together recorded velocity 1589 and the Bell team were winning four in a row. It was a close finish in Mid Antrim with McFall & McManus of New Antrim Amalgamated taking 1st MAC and 1st in the NIPA Sect B on 1582. His Blue 2 year old cock bred by son Paddy of the Croft Loft in Ahoghill was timed at 2.57pm flying 213 miles. The loft was just one yard ahead of Surgenor Bros of Kells & Dist who won 1st Sect B in last week’s race from Corrin. This weekend we have the Inland Nat from Rosscarbery and a Comeback event from Roscrea, both races are marked Friday and Muckamore Centrte collection times are Rosscarbery at 6.45pm and Roscrea at 8.00pm.

J & D Surgenor on velocity 1544 had 1st in Rasharkin & District and on the same yard J McDowell & Sons took 1st in Ballymoney West Combine.

Best bird around Coleraine in the Pilmore Beach race was Robert McCook of the Windsor Social in Coleraine, he records velocity 1526 for 1st Club and 1st in the Coleraine Triangle and the bird was winning for the second time this year. He was just ahead of T & J McDonald 1st Coleraine Premier (1521), Terence McCrudden was 1st Coleraine & County Derry (1512).
