The 2015 East Down Combine Young Bird season got underway on Saturday July 18th with the first event being held from Navan. The great British Summer as usual did supply the uncertainty which has become part of our race day but the early morning provided a window to get the birds away although there was a fresh Westerly wind blowing which almost guaranteed that the early birds would be out on the East coast and a look at the open result shows that this indeed was the case with the Cloughey club dominating the open and the new partnership of Cully & Monan having what can only be described as a dream start to their new partnership with 9 of the top 10 in the open from just over 3000 birds -what a result. The partnership members are Calvert and Hugh Cully and Barry Monan and just look at the velocities, all 9 birds doing over 1900ypm and only 3 ypm in total between them, congratulations on a great start. The main bloodlines are Andre Nauwelaerts and Van Dork. Club mates Harper & Young consistent as ever are 6th, 11th, 12th,13th 14th 15th 19th and 20th open with John & Jean Hollinger also out on the coast at Millisle at 16th and 17th and Cloughey’s H & A Keenan & ptnrs 18th. Over in the West section it was Dundonald and Crossgar with the early ones with Kincaid & McCann (Dun Donald ) topping the section followed by T Horner & Sons and A & A Cheevers of Crossgar with the next two.
