McComb Bros Best from 1st Clonmel writes Clifford Browne

Saturday August 15th Saw the East Down Combine birds in Clonmel for the first of two races from there and again there was West in the wind although it was not as strong as in previous weeks and this was reflected in velocities in the 1600’s which
still made it a fast race and with the distance increasing now to the 200 mile stage I’m not sure what effect these fast races will have if the wind turns round and they have to face a head wind from these longer events. However on the plus side
these fast races have ensured that the birdage has been maintained at over the 5,000 mark. Leading the Combine Open this week are the Killyleagh Central partnership of McComb Bros on 1657 and this week the top open places are across the Combine clubs as can be seen from the results. The partnership of A Cousins & Sons racing with the Hillfoot club had a particularly good result with 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th open and these took the top four places in the West section.
