WEATHER FORCES CHANGE OF VENUE FOR 5TH RACE
12th May 2016
The East Down Combine’s 5th race of the 2016 Old Bird season was due to be flown from Mallow on May 7th but the forecast for that Saturday saw first of all poor weather in the area of the race point ,then on the homeward route and finally at the home end so the Combine’s weather committee wisely opted to hamper on the Saturday night with a view to holding the race on the Sunday and although holding until lunchtime on the Sunday the Race Controller and weather committee could not get a clear window of weather so heldover until Monday and again they felt that the weather around Mallow was not suitable so a decision was made to move the birds north back to Thurles where they were released at 12noon into a NE wind which saw most clubs winning velocities in the 1100’s with just 6 birds breaking the 1200 mark making this the slowest race of the season so far .
The top Open positions are around the clubs this week with the open winner on 1232 being to the Ballynahinch partnership of W Hayes & son . 2nd open was up in Newtownbreda to B Hogg & Sons with the next two over in Cloughey to Gordon bros and sons who are never too far from the top . 5th open is to the Annsborough partnership of D Croskery & Son with Bally lesson’s John Patterson in at 6th open .
The top three in the sections are from these six pigeons with three in each section with the open winners topping the West Section and Gordon Bros & sons taking the top two in the East section .Top Open and section places were:
