BRICON ELECTRONIC CHIPS STOLEN - £1000 REWARD

A reward of £1000 has been offered by Bricon UK for the return or for information leading to the recovery of more than 6500 Bricon electronic rings and chips that were stolen from the Bricon UK stand at the Royal Pigeon Racing Association Show of the Year held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday 20th January 2018.

It was shortly after 10.30am on the Saturday morning that Mark Palmer of Bricon UK was alerted to the fact that a group of men had just been spotted emptying a large purple plastic tiered unit containing three deep clear buckets into white Bricon plastic carrying bags just inside the Horseshoe Hall, and just 25 yards away from the Bricon UK stand in the Pavilion Hall. The plastic unit and the carrying bags had just been taken from underneath a table on the Bricon UK stand so a rapid search of the venue was carried out by the Bricon staff and the Winter Gardens security but without success.

The rings taken were of two types for racing pigeons, namely Bricon 5001 Classic rings and Bricon 5002 Chip-Sticks with Maxculla rings, and together the haul had a value of over £8000. The goods are not covered by insurance, so the loss will have to be stood entirely by the hard working trading owners of Bricon UK, namely Bill, Sheila & Mark Palmer who have endeavoured to serve the racing pigeon sport for many years. Bill and Sheila are each now 77 years old, so this has come as a real shock.

Three perpetrators were observed; the first has a description of being a white male, aged in his late 20’s, tall at 6 foot plus, with a black goatee beard that was longer on the chin, wearing a black coat. His accomplices were a white male, 5 foot 11 inches tall, aged 50-60 years old and clean shaven; and a white male aged in his 30’s. It is possible that the three had accents that sounded like they may have come from the North East. The main suspect was seen handling the plastic unit without gloves so the unit has now been recovered for scene of crime examination. The Winter Gardens are now in the process of examining the security cameras for further leads, whilst the surrounding city centre cameras offer a further line of investigation.

Each of the electronic chips is encoded with a unique chip number that will appear on any race entry form when used, so do not be tempted to purchase the rings, as you will be handling stolen property which could result in a custodial sentence. Remember that Bricon UK is the sole distributor for Bricon timing systems for the United Kingdom, so any new Bricon chip rings offered by any other source are likely to have been stolen.

The reward of £1000 is offered for information that leads to the recovery of the chips, and furthermore anyone can return the electronic chips anonymously and without recourse to the law and they will qualify for the £1000 as a bounty.
