Mid Antrim Update -
For Week 5 of the NIPA young bird season the race was flown from Fermoy in County Cork, early liberation at 8.30am was the order of the day in a Lt NW wind. Again the birds probably done better that expected, good returns and most birds home before the heavy afternoon showers. Best bird locally was in Kells & Dist where Jeff Surgenor had the Top 4, his winner was timed at 12.43hrs flying 201 miles for a velocity of 1399.
Mid Antrim Combine – From Fermoy and last weeks Mid Antrim Combine runners up Johnston Eagleson & Sons win their second young bird race of the season and top the Combine for the second time in three weeks. They timed two birds at 12.48pm to the Cullybackey Road lofts for the 201 miles fly to win 1st & 2nd Ballymena & District and 1st & 2nd Mid Antrim Combine. The winning Blue chequer white flight cock has been in great form all season winning four prizes in five races including 3rd Club and 4th Combine last week from Gowran Park. Sire is a Louis Thijs cock gifted to Johnston from Paddy and William McManus from Ahoghill. The dam is Johnston’s best Lambrechts hen from Danny Dixon of Rasharkin. Last week’s Combine winner Bertie Blair wins 3rd Mid Antrim Combine this week. Good flying from the top Ballymena lofts. The awards for the racing season will be presented at the Rasharkin & District function to be held in the Clough Rangers Club on Saturday 17th November.

In the Muckamore HPS David Young after two races finishing runner-up broke Novice Status in Gowran Park and then one week later wins again from Fermoy. Alan Steele is runner-up for the second time.
