The Killyleagh Central annual dinner and presentation of prizes was held in AJ'S in Crossgar on Friday 6th November, a super night which included prizes won racing with both the NIPA and East Down Combine. Many thanks to the local lads who supplies text and pictures.

NIPA – Old Bird Inland Average won by McComb Bros. Old Bird Cross Channel Average won by Ed Marshall, Old Bird Ave won by Ed Marshall, Young Bird Ave won by Herbie McVeigh, Combined Average won by E Marshall and Points Cup NIPA also won by E Marshall with 70 Points.

East Down Combine – Old Bird Inland Average won by McComb Bros, Old Bird Cross Channel Average won by E Marshall, Old Bird Ave won by E Marshall, Young Bird Ave won by McComb Bros, Points Cup EDC won by McComb Bros with 86 Points. Irish Nat FC Rose Bowl won by Gordon Bros. French Cup won by Healy & Watson. A McCardell Memorial Cup won by R Cheevers.

This is some advance notice of our intent to organise a Gold Ring race for Ulster Federation members, it will be run in conjunction with the 2nd last Ulster Fed race of the young bird season. The Northern Ireland Show Racer Society based in North Antrim commenced the annual show series on Saturday 31st October at the Ballymoney HPS. All classes Through the Wires were well judged by the local aces Sean Diamond and Ace McCorriston. The major award winners were as follows. Best in Show went to Young Fancier Robert Wiggins, Reserve Best in Show won by Matt Kelly, Best Old Bird won by Edgar & Wiggins, Best Young Bird won by Rouke & Christie, Best Yearling won by Edgar & Wiggins, Best Old Cock won by Matt Kelly, Best Old Hen won by Edgar & Wiggins, Best Young Cock won by Rouke & Christie, Best Young Hen won by Walter Wylie.

Ballymoney HPS – First show is penned in for Friday 13th November classes for Young Cock & Young Hen T/W and Old Bird Eye-sign to be followed on Friday 20th Nov with classes for Old Cock & Old Hen T/W and Young Bird Eye-sign. The Annual Dinner & Prize Distribution will be held in the Lodge Hotel, Coleraine on Saturday 14th November.

Rasharkin & District – The first show of the year was a class for Old Cock, judged Through the Wires by Cullybackey fanciers including, Len & Ryan Russell and Edrick Davidson. Old Cocks T/W (84 Birds) – 1st & 4th J & M Milliken, 2nd & 3rd J Robinson & Son, Reserve & HC D Mairs, VHC J & D Surgenor, Commended A C & T Tweed. Friday – Old Hens T/W.

East Antrim Show Scene Dates/Results

The Annual Monster Show staged by the Larne & District HPS will take place on Saturday 28th November with penning 10.00am until 1.00pm at £1.00 per bird. Classes are Old Cock, Old Hen, Young Cock, Young Hen and the OB & YB Eye-sign may be duplicated. Judges from top lofts, prizes for all cards and the Best in Show is £100, Best Opposite Sex £50. Horseshoe HPS – The start of the show series included classes for Young Hens and Old Hens judged Through the Wires by Owen O’Neill & Son (Glenarm & Dist). Mid Antrim Club Shows & Results

Ballymena & District HPS - Will operate on the usual Monday night, they started on 2nd November with classes for Young Cock & Young Hen Through the Wires to be followed on 9th Nov with Old Cocks & Old Hens Through the Wires and 16th Nov with YC & YH Handled. Young Cocks T/W – 1st & Special Blair & Rankin, 2nd & VHC W & J Smyth, 3rd B Herbinson, 4th, HC & Commended J Devlin, Reserve J Letters. Young Hens T/W – 1st W & J Smyth, 2nd & HC J Devlin, 3rd J & R J Reid, 4th & VHC Richmond Bros, Reserve & Commended B Herbinson. Judges – L Russell & E Davidson.

Broughshane & District – The opening shows of the year were held in the local clubrooms on Tuesday 3rd November, classes Old Cocks and Young Cocks were judges Through the Wires by the Kells & Dist pair Gorge McDowell and Roy Lorimer. Old Cocks T/W – 1st, 3rd, Reserve & VHS J & N Simpson, 2nd C Kennedy, 4th D Houston & Son, HC C Quaite, Commended T & E Service. Young Cocks T/W – 1st, 4th & Reserve D Houston & Son, 2nd C Quaite, 3rd J & N Simpson, VHC H Smyth & Son, HC G & A Eagleson, Commended R Wylie. Next weeks Show is Tues 10th Nov for Old Hens T/Wires and Young Hens T/Wire. Following week Tues 17th Nov is for Old bird Eye-sign, Young Bird Eye-sign and Young Bird Mated Pairs. The officials and members of the club extend their belated condolences to their new member Robert Wylie on the death of his father Robert and extend their sympathy to him and his family circle.

Kells & Dist – Shows started on Wednesday 4th November, penning in the local clubrooms until 8.00pm and all classes Through the Wires. The first class of Young Cocks will be followed on 11th Nov Young Hens, 18th Nov Old Cocks, 25th Nov Old Hens, 2nd December Mated Pairs and 9th December Eye-sign & Pieds. The Annual 3 in 1 Open Show will be held on Saturday 26th December, the usual big event for Boxing Day. Randalstown HPS – The local shows make a return in 2009, penning 7.00pm until 8.00pm all classes in the clubrooms, and visitors welcome. The first classes were Young Cock and Young Hen Through the Wires on Thursday 5th November to be followed by 12th Nov – Old Hen & Old Cock T/W, 19th Nov - Young Hen & Young Cock Handled, 26th Nov – Old Hen & Old Cock Handled, 3rd December – Young Pairs Handled, 10th December Old Pairs Handled, 17th December – Eye-sign. Ahoghill Flying Club - Continue with the local series held in the new clubrooms, penning 7.00pm until 8.00pm and visitors will be made very welcome. First show was last Friday 6th November with classes for Young Cock & Young Hen Through the Wires to be followed by 13th Nov OC & OH T/W, Nov 20th YC & YH Handled, 27th Nov OC & OH Handled, 4th December Young Pairs & Fancy T/W, 11th Dec Old Pairs T/W & Late-bred Handled, 18th Dec OB & YB Eye-sign.

Open Show News

Millisle & District – The Annual Xmas Show will be held at the Portavogie Clubrooms on Saturday 14th November with penning from 12.00pm until 2.00pm. Classes are Any Age Cock, Any Age Hen and Eye-sign. The Best in Show Special will be £50 with cash prizes for the winners of other classes. Following the show a sale of approx 10 x 2010 young birds donated by prominent lofts.

Hillfoot HPS will present a 3 in 1 Open Show in the Hillfoot Clubrooms on Saturday 21st November penning 11.00am until 1.00pm. Three Classes for the price of one, entry £1 per Bird. Young Hen or Young Cock T/W, Handled and Eye-sign, Old Hen or Old Cock T/W, Handled and Eye-sign. Six Classes in total paying out £50 Prize Money plus small prizes. Specials to include Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex. Judging to start promptly at 1.00pm. Young Bird Sale to follow Open Show to start Approx 3.00pm. Donation of birds from Top Lofts around Northern Ireland, all 2009 birds will be in the pen before purchase. All prize money donated by Hillfoot HPS members. Come along and support the club Free Buffett, refreshments available and Super Ballot.

Lisburn & District – The opening show will be held on Saturday 14th November Any Age Cock/Hen with penning from 7.00pm until 7.30pm. Members must show a minimum of 6 birds per show to compete for Specials in 2010. Further shows will be held on 21st Nov, 5th Dec with the big New Year Special Show to be held on 2nd January. Special thanks to Sammy Briggs who is going to supply the prize for the ballot each week. Will members please note AGM is on 08/12/09 (Part 1).

Downpatrick HPS will have a YB Gold Ring Race to be flown from Mallow on 25th August 2010, the event only open to lofts competing in the NIPA Sect F and the East Down Combine Sect East. The Annual NIPA Ladies Night to be held in Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick on Friday 13th November at 7.00pm sharp.
