Mid Antrim Combine
INFC Saint Allouestre Old Bird National Kings Cup
The Irish National Flying Club liberated their Kings Cup birds in Saint Allouestre France on Friday 3rd July at 6.30am in light northerly winds. The best bird in the local Mid Antrim Combine area was timed by four time major National winner Danny Dixon of Dunloy. Danny timed one of only two birds recorded on the day of liberation in the Mid Antrim Combine and the only bird in the Coleraine centre at 19.28pm to win 22nd Open INFC French National on 1165. The sire of the 2yo Wilf Reid blue cock was a gift from Eamon Quigley of Donegal and the dam is off a son of 'Darkie' Wilf Reid’s number one stock cock sold for £9000 at his clearance sale. The nestmate to Danny's winner was timed at 21.16pm on the night from the Nipa Tourlaville old bird French National this year to win 10th Section & 81st Open. The Wilf Reid birds are scoring well for Danny on the channel with other birds winning 8th North Section & 12th Open Kings Cup in 2022, 3rd Open INFC Penzance YB National 2025 and 6th Section & 68th Open Nipa Plougastel OB National 2025 etc.
Chris Moore of Cullybackey timed the only other bird on the night in the Mid Antrim Combine at 20.33pm flying 506 miles to record velocity 1055 and win 60th North Section & 62nd Open. Chris penned the following - The 2yo dark cheq cock was well raced as a young bird and yearling. This season as 2 year old received one Irish race then both Dales followed by training tosses with Ivan Mawhinney.
The bird was paired and sent sitting approx 10 days on eggs. His Sire was bred by myself containing the finest C&L Fryers long distance bloodlines which are incredibly reliable for me in French races, his grandmother was 3 times France and 6th Open King's Cup in 2016, his great grandsire was Laurence's Gold Medal winner for 4 times France.
The Dam of my pigeon is a hen on loan from Drew Caskey of Bangor, shes a daughter of the "Producer" containing all the best of the old Jack Gilmore reds through Sid Collins and can be traced back to Jacks 2nd Open Kings Cup and Billy Erwin 'El Cid'. The Dam of the Producer is a daughter of Nyland Ashley from John Halstead 2nd Open BICC Barcelona (696 miles) being of Biss x Southwell bloodlines, he is a son of Jim Biss’ Turban which was 2nd Open NFC Pau at 650 miles.
Drew Caskeys "42" hen is also part of the breeding and has been at the forefront of his loft being a half sister to his own 10th Open Kings Cup hen in recent years, this line carries the finest N Black and Sons bloodlines plus Jack Daniels 9th Open Kings Cup of again Jack Gilmore breeding.
I'd like to thank C & L Fryers and Drew Caskey for their kindness in providing me with such good pigeons over the years and Alan Darragh for taking my pigeons to the marking centre due to my work commitments.
Alan Darragh timed the next morning to win third in the Combine and finish 167th Open on 704. Alan a previous winner of the Kings Cup from Jersey in 1986 was fresh from winning this year's Infc Sennen Cove Yearling National just a couple of weeks ago. Chris Moore timed a second bird the next day for 4th Combine and 212th Open on 589. The sire of this bird was a Koopman cock from the late Billy Smyth of Ballymena which had won the Combine and Section for Billy from Talbenny.
Ian and Eric Stewart timed the only other bird in the Combine on the third morning to win 5th Combine and 249th Open on 370
