‘MISS ÉADA RAE’ BRINGS NATIONAL SUCCESS TO THE ROONEY’S
In this report I will be covering the Dunmanway & Dunmanway Yearling National. Another treble
racing weekend with these inland races from Co. Cork plus the channel race from Bude covered in
my previous race report. This is the annual 20 Bird limit Yearling nomination race held within an
overall Dunmanway race where fanciers can send with no limitations for the first time. A total of 300
NIPA Members sent 4,970 Birds to Dunmanway in County Cork with 197 NIPA members nominating
1,901 birds in the Dunmanway Yearling Inland National Race. Saturday morning the 13 th of June the
birds were liberated at 08:30hrs in a West Northwest Wind.
The winning bird from both Dunmanway & Dunmanway Yearling Inland National belongs to Kevin
Rooney & Son of Annalong HPS in Section F.
What a race it was for the Rooney’s of Annalong not only topping the NIPA Open and winning the
Yearling Inland National but taking the first 5 in the Dunmanway Open and even sweeter taking the
first 4 in the Yearling inland national. Fantastic flying from Kevin & Kristopher. The Dunmanway 1 st
Open winning pigeon had a velocity of 1642.289YPM IHU23 N 16245 has been named ‘Miss Éada
Rae’ She has no been 1 st Open 4,617 birds NIPA, 5 th Open, 10,769 birds NIPA, 13 th , 14 th , 23 rd , 27 th Open
East Down Combine, 42 nd open NIPA 12,963 birds. Sire is a Patrick Boeckx and is a son of Sagan 4. The
Dam is a Luc Vervoort she’s a full sister to the 511. Her full sisters were also 3 rd and 4 th Open NIPA on
the same day.

M. Russell of Dromara HPS. Matthew had a great performance into the Section D prizes Winning 1 st
Section D (881 Birds) and 1 st Section D Yearling National (306 Birds) in the overall NIPA Open
achieved 8 th (4,970 Birds) and 6 th Open in the yearling national race (1,901 Birds)

SECTION G REPORT
The Winner of Section G (29/819) from Dunmanway was Gary Hughes & Son of Newry City HPS. Gary
& Jordan father and son racing partnership of Bessbrook win their club (138 birds) and make it a
memorable race in winning 1 st Section G (819 birds) and overall in the NIPA Open placings achieve a
super result in 6 th Open, 98 th Open, 175 th Open, 188 th Open (4,970 birds) The newly crowned Section
G winner is a Blue yearling cock bred from 2 Van Leemputten Gift birds from Peter Martin of No
Mercy Lofts, Belfast. Peter gifted us some birds in 2023 off the best of his Van Leemputten family
stemming down from the top bird of ‘Marcel’. The Section Winner had never been trained as a YB
and only seen a hamper for the first time this May. His first race was the Cloughmartin comeback,
second race was 1 st Fermoy and finished 142 nd Open, 27 th Section and now Wins 1 st Section G, 6 th
Open in only his 3 rd ever race in an unfavourable wind. Me and dad would like to thank Peter for
gifting us the best of his loft an absolute gentleman and even better pigeon fancier with a top class
family of winning birds of Van Leemputtens and Busschaerts. The birds have done extremely well for
us already in this short time and have also done well for us over in the Algarve Great Derby One Loft
Race in Portugal with multiple birds in the Final prizes winning prizemoney being bred from these
and crossed with our own stock.
