When you read this column the first race of the National programme will have been flown from Skibbereen. The 2009 winner was Cromie & Magee of Ballynahinch. This race is also first leg of the Charles Hunniford Challenge Trophy and in the last two years the eventual winner was in the top ten of the Open result.
Can I also remind INFC members that it is time to sort your entries for the Robin Duddy Challenge Trophy. The races in question are the Yearling National to be flown from Sennen Cove on Wednesday 9th June and the YB National to be flown on September 8th from Penzance. The details of how to enter are included in the official INFC race booklet. The 2009 winner was Geoffrey Douglas of Wilton Cross Lurgan.
1995
The year I retired from United Biscuits after some 30 years of working for them. Reverend Sam Ovens president of the SNFC was the INFC main guest at the Stormont Hotel for the presentaion of prizes. The Kings Cup winner was the late Henry Beattie of Laurelvale. Roy Clements of Ballymena collected the Nelson Vase 1st RPRA member after the winner from the Kings Cup and Mark Foulis of Dundonald took the Gilliland Cup 1st IHU member. The Ulster Fed Cup went to John Mulhern of Fortfield. The Harkness Rose Bowl Best 2-Bird Average from the Kings Cup went to the Dromara partnership of N Black & Sons for the second year in succession.
Robin Duddy collected the McCloud Cup for the 1st Yearling in the Kings Cup. Wayne Doonan of Dromore collected the Nelson Corry Cup as winner of the Yearling National. The YB National from Penzance was won by Jim Lennox Rasharkin. Billy McLIroy of Ballymena enjoyed a great National year collecting De Scheemaecker Trophy Best 2-Bird Average Penzance Young Bird National, Presidents Cup, Read Cup, Diamond Cup.
The popular Tony Kehoe of Wexford took the Skibbereen Young Bird National Jarvis Cup Best Average Two Young Bird Nationals. McKitterick Bros of Gilford The Irvine Cup Best Average from Rennes and St Malo to the crack team of Grattan Bros Eastway.
The National Champion for 1995 was none other than John Patterson of Ballylesson. We had four Hall Of Fame Diploma winners, three times an Open prize winner fro the Kings Cup, Hammond Bros of Cookstown, Fred McMaster of Kircubbin, Frank Scott & Son Dromore, Burns Bros of comber. Ronnie Williamson of Bondhill collected the coveted Gold Medal four times an Open winner from the Kings Cup. Joe Doheny of Dublin was INFC President in 1995.

The INFC has 2,100 members across Ireland. The 6 Race Programme includes the famous Kings Cup Grand National from France. Friendship Nat is also France, Ylr Nat Sennen Cove, YB Grand Nat Penzance and OB and YB Nat from Skibbereen.
