A further week of daily training under their belts and the official basketing list appeared on the SCMDPR web site on Friday 6th January 2012 for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5, which was due to take place on Saturday 7th January from 380km (approx. 236 miles) and this showed a total of 3,856 pigeons were competing (yet another record entry for this race) and this figure included 3,275 International, which included 295 from the United Kingdom and 41 from Ireland, plus 581 pigeons from South Africa. The liberation then took place at 05-30 in clear, fine and cool conditions, 19c (66f), with a light head wind and a good race was anticipated by the loft managers and Zandy Meyer (Race Director). A later mid morning weather report from Sun City, showed fine and hot, light head wind, clear conditions and temperature of 27c (81f) and rising as the day progressed.

Then the top 50 pigeons were all clocked within 10 minutes 55.75 seconds of the race winner and the top 100 pigeons were all clocked within 18 minutes 55.80 seconds of the race winner. WHAT A FANTASTIC INTERNATIONAL RACE RESULT WITH 12 COUNTRIES REPRESENTED IN THE TOP 20.
A total of 41 pigeons were officially recorded by 11-38, then 363 by 12-02, then 782 by 12-20, then 1,000 by 12-28, then 1,415 by 12-52, then 1,652 by 13-17, then 2,044 by 14-45, then 2,062 by 15-0, then 2,543 by 17-46 and then 2,795 finally making it on the day by 20-25, leaving 1,061 pigeons still to make it back to the lofts. The clock was left on Sunday to record pigeons and they started rolling in from 05-45 and 3,134 had been clocked by 08-20, then 3,394 by 11-04 and finally 3,464 had returned by 18-46, leaving 392 still to make it back to base camp. A further 45 pigeons returned to the lofts, making 3,509 in total, with now only 347 to return. Sure a few of these will work back in the next few days, so if yours is missing keep your eyes on the basketing lists. A further 12 pigeons worked back making 3,521 in total, leaving 335 to return to the lofts.
Yet another fantastic return rate for this Car Race Hot Spot 5 from 236 miles. These figures represent a 91.00% return rate which is exceptional in this type of race and the Race Director (Zandy Meyer), Loft Managers, Corey Naude (convoyer) and other convoyers, drivers and all the other loft staff should get a big pat on the back for these remarkable return figures. It should also be mentioned that after the early losses Car Race Hot Spot 1 from 121 miles showed a 100% return rate, whilst Car Race Hot Spot 2 from 160 miles showed a 95% return rate. Car Race Hot Spot 3 showed a 96% return rate. Then Car Race Hot Spot 4 showed a return rate of 94.67%. SO THE AVERAGE RETURN RATE FOR ALL THESE FIVE CAR RACE HOT SPOTS IS A STAGGERING 95.40%. CONRATULATIONS TO ALL THE STAFF CONCERNED.
Well done again to Michael Holt and Pieter Saayman for keeping everybody up to date with arrivals as they returned from this Car Race Hot Spot 5, these guys did a fantastic job to keep everybody informed during the two days that this race took place. They currently have the most informative one loft web site in the world today but are continually striving to improve the information so that all the fanciers and competitors can be kept up too date anywhere in the world with what is happening at the lofts in Sun City, South Africa. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORKS LADS, YOU ARE DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB.
*** BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR WINNER*** for CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5 went to 1st OPEN for BELGICA DE WEERD from NETHERLANDS with pigeon named ERINS TUITION, which was bred by HENK DE WEERD at the INTERPALOMAS LOFTS. WELL DONE TO THIS DUTCH TEAM AND ESPECIALLY TO HENK DE WEERD. ALL THE FIVE PIGEONS THAT HAVE WON A BRAND NEW MOTOR CAR IN THIS 2011/12 RACE SERIES SHOULD BE IN THE FINAL RACE ON SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012 FROM 342 MILES AS THEY WERE ALL OFFICIALLY CLOCKED IN CAR RACE HOT SPOT 5.

This is the second time in this race series that the United Kingdom Team have just missed out on winning this cash prize, as Lee Fribbins from Colchester also took 2nd in and earlier race, plus the United Kingdom Team members N+A Evans and Cuthbert from Wolviston won this cash prize in Car Race Hot Spot 1. IT REALLY DOES SHOW THAT THE UNITED KINGDOM TEAM HAVE ONCE AGAIN MORE THAN HELD THEIR OWN IN THIS CATEGORY. WELL DONE TO THE WINNER.
*** TWENTY US$1,000 HOT SPOT CASH PRIZES*** were taken by ACTIVATED pigeons in the top 21 in the Open result. The top twenty are listed above in the Open result so I will not duplicate their names again. The result showed that the pigeon that actually took 18th for a South Korean entrant was NOT ACTIVATED and this cost this entrant/competitor winning the US$1,000 cash prize but the good news was for the fanciers that took 21st walked away with a very handy US$1,000 bonus prize and this just happened to go to the United Kingdom team member Manchester Maestros with their great pigeon Plutology bred by Crehan & O’Connor from Salford. This is the third US$1,000 this pigeon has won in this race series. This shows once again that if your pigeons are still in the lofts prior to the Car Race Hot Spot 1, it realty is extremely foolish not to ACTIVATE them.

This great pigeon has won 20th, 70th, 119th, 231st, 25th, 112th, 135th, 73rd, 54th, 2nd, 103rd, 283rd and now 6th Open. There are a total of 4 different countries represented in the top 10. The first UNITED KINGDOM pigeon is currently holds 2nd OPEN and belongs to BLANEFIELD LOFTS with pigeon named CAYSIE JO and it is leading this classification by just over 43 minutes and this pigeon has already won 115th, 55th, 244th, 153rd, 55th, 85th, 83rd, 30th and 290th. It was interesting to note that 15 UK pigeons held positions in the top 99 which is quite an achievement in a race such as this. United Kingdom pigeons are also holding onto 3rd and 4th in this category. The first IRISH pigeon is currently holds 291st and belongs to PHILIP + MARK SMITH with pigeon named SILVER WINGS and is leading this classification now by nearly 6 hours. WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.
*****THE FOLLOWING RACE PROGRAMME***** Then on Saturday 14th January Training Race 20 from 81km (50 miles), then on Wednesday 18th January Training Race 21 from 81km (50 miles), then the penultimate race on Saturday 21st January Training Race 22 from 130km (81 miles) and then of course “THE FINAL RACE” will then take place on SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012 from 550km (342 miles). Of course the weather conditions will have to be right for all of these races to take place on the appointed days, if not they will be basketed and liberated on another day when the weather forecast is favourable and the Race Director’s decision will be final. The object of this great race from day one has always been to get as many pigeons to “THE FINAL RACE” on 28th JANUARY as possible and give all fanciers/competitors/entrants a fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”. Only races of 50km (approx. 31 miles) will count towards the SUN CITY OVERALL ACE PIGEON AVERAGES, which has a total of three cash prizes of US$10,000 (approx. £6,666), US$5,000 (approx. £3,333) and US$2,500 (approx. £1,666) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this category.

***CAN YOU BE OF ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE SUN CITY MILLION DOLLAR PIGEON RACE?**** Many pigeon fanciers from literally all over the world read my weekly International Press Releases on a regular basis and I get scores of emails from fanciers in numerous other countries that currently do not enter this great race. So why not get in touch with me as soon as possible and see if you can act as a Country Shipper for fanciers in your country. We are always looking for more entries, especially from countries that have never participated. Since this race started way back in 1997 around 45/50 different countries have already participated, but we as race organisers would love to see even more countries taking part and joining in the fun. If you are interested or you know somebody that might be interested in working closely with us, then please contact me as soon as possible by telephone, facsimile or email.
