Antrim Area Update – The season for old birds started in great style despite the uncertain weather conditions, the two races from Tullamore in Co Offaly were flown in a headwind. The second race at the weekend was a bit quicker that the week previous but the major winner was the same. What a start for the ace flyiers in Crumlin, Fleming Bros Ian and Jimmy timed the same Cheq cock bred by Jackie Scates of Belfast to top the NIPA Sect B for both races and taking its Sect total to three, fantastic racing. Last year the loft won the NIPA Sect B Fancier of the Year, they don’t intend to give that title up easily.

In the second race from Tullamore liberation was at 10.00am again in a North W wind, a little easier that the week previous. The early arrivals in East Antrim were all in Ligoniel with Bingham & Seaton recording velocity 1611 followed by the previous week winners G & M Atcheson. Andy Cooke had a great result in Ballycarry, 5 in the top 6 including the winner and Whiteside Bros had 1st Eastway (1601). Mr & Mrs G Robinson were best in Carrickfergus (1597) and win the pools and Crawford & Robinson are best in Larne (1584) collecting all pools, 1st 2 Bird, Nom & DTW. Larne & Dist had over 1,000 birds competing.

Alan Darragh tops Mid Antrim Combine -
Like the previous week the second race was from Tullamore, another very good race following the 10.00am liberation in the North Westerly wind. Just short of 3,000 birds were competing in the local Mid Antrim Combine and the overall winner was the ace fancier from Cullybackey Alan Darragh recording velocity 1528 followed by two early arrivals for Martin Graham in Ballymena & District. The Magill team in Ballee had 1st New Antrim (1511), Stewart Bros had 1st, 2nd & 3rd in Randalstown (1507), while Surgenor Bros and Young McManus & Sons won their respective clubs Kells and Ahoghill for the second week. The Darragh and Graham lofts were also winning for the second week, the top lofts do set the pace.
