For the third race of the old bird season the NIPA moved on to Roscrea in County Tipperary, the 1st Open winner Joe Devlin from Coalisland topped Sect A in the corresponding race in 2011. Winning velocity was 1279 and for the first time I can remember the result was available on Sunday evening. Early birds were timed across most of the NIPA, 5 x 1st Sect winners were placed in the Top 11 and good returns have been reported in each race to date. In the third race of the old bird season the NIPA were in Roscrea, birds were released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind. Over 27,000 birds were competing and it was a good result for lofts in the far flying North West. Best in the Coleraine Triangle was the former Kings Cup winner Anthony McDonnell recording velocity 1255 followed by two birds together for Jimmy Hanson who was best in the Coleraine Triangle in the opening race from Tullamore. Anthony is runner up in the NIPA Sect A finishing a good 8th Open and Hanson & Harpur have their two birds in the Top 12.

Antrim Area Update
Last weekend the NIPA were in Roscrea Co Tipperary, birds released at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind, a steady race was expected. In the two races flown from Tullamore the Fleming Bros from Crumlin & Dist topped the NIPA Sect B on both occasions with the same bird. It was a fantastic start for the loft that were the current Sect B Fanciers of the Year in 2011, early indications are that after having the early bird again from Roscrea they might just again win 1st NIPA Sect B. So far they have been the most consistent loft, winner this time a Blue widowhood hen timed at 13.12hrs flying 132 miles recording velocity 1213. Muckamore had the best bird in the local area, A & E Bell who race in the East Antrim Sect C record velocity 1239 with a 2 year old Blue cock.

The East Antrim Sect C lofts enjoyed the race from Roscrea in Co Tipperary at the weekend, the third NIPA event of the old bird season. Liberation was at 10.00am in a North Easterly wind and the leading local lofts were placed up near the top of the NIPA where 27,000 birds were competing. Two race cards especially stand out, Gregg Bros & McCandless had 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the Ligoniel & Dist with the winner doing velocity 1272 and Andy Cooke had 8 in the Ballycarry & Dist Top 10 with the winner doing 1266. The NIPA was topped by Joe Devlin from Coalisland doing velocity 1279, Gregg Bros & McCandless had 1st, 2nd & 4th Sect C and 2nd, 3rd & 7th Open NIPA. Andy Cooke who has raced well all season will be very happy with 3rd Sect C and 4th Open NIPA. Obituary Margaret Ross of Glenavy - The members of Glenavy & Dist were sad to learn of the passing of Mrs Margaret Ross just a short time after husband Jim who was a founder member of the club and a Past President. Liberation was at 10.00am and a steady race was expected in the North Easterly wind. The best bird locally was timed by Charlie McManus at his loft on the main Antrim Road, he records velocity 1212. Old Hand Charlie, now 86 years young is showing the younger generation just how it’s done. New Kid on the Block – Race Report
The N.I.P.A. were in Roscrea for their third old bird race of the season. The birds were liberated on Saturday 28/04/12 at 10.00am into a light North East wind . The race turned into another tight race with winning velocities just short of 1300 ypm.

A super race for last seasons Section C Fanciers Of The Year Gregg Bros & McCandless of Ligoniel taking the top two positions in the section and winning 2nd & 3rd Open against over 27,000 birds for good measure.
