East Down Combine
DONAGHADEE LOFTS TAKE TOP SPOTS FROM CLONMEL 2
Well as expected it was not possible to hold a race on the weekend of May 2nd/3rd because of the atrocious weather in Ireland and so the Ulster Fed and the NIPA held their races on the Friday May 1st with the East Down Combine going on the Sunday night for the race from Clonmel on the Bank Holiday Monday and with a SW wind another fast race was on the cards and this time the top birds in the Combine were to the Donaghadee club .
Pride of place goes to the partnership of A & P Trimble and sons and this is a well deserved result as you will see this loft most weeks featuring in the club and Peninsula results . The winner is a blue Roland Janssen x Janssen cock , the Roland Janssen being from a direct pair from Louella whilst on the other side the Janssen is from direct birds from Premier Lofts . This blue cock is racing Roundabout.
For 2nd Open we stay with the Donaghadee club and it is the loft of Angus & son and McConkey who take the honours here and this is another loft which is very consistent in it’s performances .
They were 2nd Open from the first Clonmel ,this week they are 3rd open and the Bangor partnership of Reggie & David Moore are enjoying a really super season and if you read the 2 bird results they are consistently figuring in the result here as well . This week’s 3rd Open, 3rd East section and the Bangor club winner is a yearling hen the nest sister of their winner from 2nd Tullamore which was 16th Open 2nd East section in that race . The partnership follow up their 3rd Open Clonmel with 3 more in the result at 5th,6th &7th Open ,4th ,5th &6th East section.
Another fancier enjoying yet another great season is the veteran Ballylesson fancier John (JP ) Patterson who as well as winning at Ballylesson takes 4th open and tops the West Section. John is also the winner of the 2 bird club from the first Clonmel .
The weather Committee deserve a special mention for putting the welfare of the birds first and whilst everyone would prefer to race on Saturdays ,given the weather we have had at weekends recently those who have to make these difficult decision for their organisations deserve our thanks .
The provisional result from Clonmel 2 is :

Harper and Young Hat trick of Wins
The first three races of the 2015 old bird season saw one loft top all three races, each race flown in very different conditions and with the wind blowing in three different directions to make their winning over the three weeks a very good achievement and a brilliant performance from their pigeons.
The fanciers concerned were Drew Harper and Martin Young racing with the Cloughey club to their loft sited in the fishing village of Portavogie. The first race saw them take a clean sweep of the winnings taking the top three Open, Section, Amalgamation , 2.Bird Club,3 Bird Club and their club from the first race from Tullamore ,this was flown in a South West wind.
The second race again from Tullamore and this time with an Easterly wind and they claimed the top four in the Amalgamation and took four open positions being 31st,33rd,35th and 36th into a wind not suitable for their part of the Combine . Clonmel in Cork was the third race and again the first two spots and good Open places were taken by the partnership and this time it was a head wind which faced the pigeons on their flight home to complete a great three weeks for them.
I spoke to Drew and Martin recently and they gave me some details of their winning pigeons. They over the past few seasons have progressed with many great wins and a lot of these successes are from birds which originate from Up North Combine members which were obtained for Drew and Martin by their good friend and avid Newcastle United supporter John Adair who over several years has had birds from Bob Donaldson, the latest his Van Dork birds and these are giving top winners and also Alfie Hawthorne supplied brilliant pigeons and not forgetting the Sunderland fanciers Kelly and Officer and all these fliers have sent the best to the partners and this is greatly appreciated and all these birds are performing to the highest levels in the hands of these excellent fanciers. Many thanks to Drew and Martin and congratulations on your recent success and I am sure their will be more victories ahead and thanks for your time. The only bad note of the visit was to learn that the men had lost their good Dark Cheq Cock, an Open Winner with several other top positions ,a couple days prior while training, most likely to a Falcon .To lose a bird of this quality is to such a bitter end is always sad .
Now the full results from the first three Peninsula Amalgamation races .
