Saturday June 13th and a change of venue for the EDC Race which was scheduled to be flown from Bude in Cornwall but the Committee when they considered the various options given the very poor forecast for a cross channel event on either the
Saturday or the Sunday opted to hold the race from Pilmore Beach in Southern Ireland and were able to hold the race on the Saturday with the birds being released at 10.30 am into a light Northerly wind and as can be seen from the velocities it was a much slower race than some this season. Now here is a pretty unique result, 1st and 2nd open were to the Ballylesson partnership of C & D Smyth and sons who timed a pair of yearling nest mates on exactly the same velocity an amazing achievement. 3rd open was also to the Ballylesson club to M & A Johnston and the next two are to the Rooney family in Annalong and these take the top two places in the East section.
