James Cleland wins Open from Talbenny
2nd June 2016
The East Down were in Talbenny on the week end of May 28th for the first cross channel event of 2016 . The birds were race marked as per the programme on the Thursday night and it had been hoped for a race on the Saturday but despite regular weather updates the race committee much to their credit were not happy to liberate and so the birds were held until Sunday morning when they were away at 9am into a light Easterly wind which is famous for causing fog havoc suddenly on the Irish sea and living as I do on the shores of Belfast Lough I was more than a little perturbed when around lunchtime fog began to drift in off the water ,but it was short lived and obviously only local for the birds had an excellent race and several fanciers have spoken to me about the excellent condition of the birds despite the extra day in the crates and the Race Controller and his team are to be complemented and thanked for giving everyone such an enjoyable race .
Pride of place and no stranger to success from a cross channel race is Annsborough’s James Cleland closely followed by the Rooneys down in Annsborough With Harry Wallace of Ballynahinch in 3rd open and topping the West section ahead of BCT Foulis & Gill up in Dun Donald . Top positions in open and Section were :
