Jim Tumelty tops Combine from 2nd Talbenny
The East Down Combine had two races scheduled for Saturday 3rd of June , the inland race,(The Derek Wishart Memorial race ) which was programmed to be flown from Mallow but had to be relocated at the last minute to Fermoy as the Mallow site was unavailable and the second race again from Talbenny .
Whilst we were enjoying continental type weather this in turn with the predominance of East in the wind led to mist and fog especially over the Irish sea and despite hopes that this would lift on Saturday it was Sunday before liberation took place and even then it was 2pm before the birds were airborne . Fermoy on the other hand saw a Saturday liberation birds away at 9am into a light variable wind and both races had winning velocities in the 1300’s .
Winning the open from Talbenny was the Newtownbreda loft of Jim Tumelty whose winner was bred by Rob McManns of Fortfield hps in the Ulster Federation and this bird has already to it’s credit ,5th club Talbenny 2015, 1st club Talbenny 7th open 2015 ,1st club Fermoy 2016 and now 1st club 2nd Talbenny 1st Open 1st west sec ,1st 3 bird channel championship club.
2nd & 3rd Open and 1st & 2nd East section was the loft our Race Controller D. Croskery & son and I have to say Doley is doing a great job in this demanding role as Race Controller . Top Open and section places were :
