North West Update from Mullingar -
For the second year the NIPA opening race from Mullingar was topped by a local loft, last season it was T & J McDonald 1st Open for Coleraine Prem and this same bird was well placed again. The Ballymoney loft of J Hutchinson & Son timed their winner at 1.59pm flying 114 miles to record velocity 1685. Liberation of the NIPA in Mullingar was at Noon in a Lt South East wind.

The opening race of the old bird season commenced last Saturday with a race from Mullingar. Liberation was at Noon in a Lt SE wind and all the early birds were timed at the top end. Best bird locally was timed by the new team of Gibson & O’Neill flying in the Cullybackey HPS, two birds in a minute at 1.47pm with the winner recording velocity 1667 for the 101 miles. They are Associate members in the MAC and collect the winning Diploma for the first race. Sire is a g/son of Danny Dixons Heartbreaker and dams Lambrecht, also her sire coming from Danny and her dam of Leslie Madden, she was also 2nd MAC for Scott & Clements. MAC remains open for Associate member’s, get in before the Knock-Out starts joining fee £5.

Something different this week with the news that the NIPA Chairman Ken Wilkinson has entered a bird in the RPRA One Loft Race for Riverside School.
RPRA ONE LOFT RACE 2017
Included in this week’s notes, a photo of an entry from Riverside School Antrim. The picture shows the breeder Ken Wilkinson of New Antrim - proudly displaying their entry to the enthusiastic children and their headmaster. The children have named their entry "Riverside Hope" - Wishing the children & Ken all the very best in their venture, races are held during the year with Final in September.

The N.I.P.A. were in Mullingar for the opening old bird race of the season. The birds were liberated on Saturday 08/04/17 at 12 midday into a light south easterly breeze . Top birds on the day winning 1st & 2nd Sect B ( 107 / 2,812 ) & 1st & 4th Open ( 635 / 15,559 ) belongs to the partnership of J Hutchinson & Son . Congratulations on your latest top performance in the opening race of the NIPA old bird season .
