Mallow & Talbenny - 03/06/17

Post by willie reynolds »

Dundonald win both Mallow & Talbenny

June already and the East Down Combine had two races organised for Saturday June 3rd , one from Talbenny (Wales ) and the other From Mallow in the South of Ireland , the wind was South West and as showers were expected later in the day both liberations took place early at 7am to allow the birds plenty of time to get home before the showers really got going and both races produced very fast winning velocities with Mallow having the best with the probable winner on 2001ypm being the Dundonald partnership of BCT Foulis & Gill and this partnership also won the Combine Gold ring race also from Mallow on May 6th .From Talbenny it was again Dundonald topping the result with the winner on 1876 to the partnership of Stephen Brown & Tom McConnell and this was followed at 2nd Open by another Dundonald loft that of Roy Irwin .
In 3rd open and first in the East section and enjoying a great season it was Bangor’s Burgess & Brennan .The full result of Talbenny was :

Something to Celebrate in Bangor

Several Members of Bangor RPC have been very successful in recent races , firstly it was the Burgess & Brennan partnership winning the East Down Combine from the Skibbereen Classic and this was followed by Reggie & David Moore finishing 4th North Section with the INFC from the Skibbereen National so the club decided to hold a little celebration to mark these achievements, so after the birds were race marked and on the lorry for the 2nd Talbenny race, club members gathered round for a Chinese meal and a real good club evening with plenty of chat ,banter and congratulations to the successful partnerships on their Achievements . For me it took me back to my early days in pigeons when after race marking it was usual practice for us to stay on in the clubrooms for a few hours to discuss matters pigeon but this has largely died out with the modern lifestyle .
The Bangor club has been in existence for a long time and I have attached a copy of the photo which hangs in the clubrooms dated 1904 with the then membership but it is generally believed that the club was founded a few years before this but we can‘t find any of the original records of the time . Today the clubrooms are still where they were when I joined 50 years ago and at present we have some 18 flying members on the books plus several non flying members . Imagine the party we could have if someone in the club were to win the King’s Cup !!. Well Done the Bangor members it was a great night .

This week the EDC are scheduled to fly their next race from Bude in Cornwall but already departure has had to be delayed owing to the very poor weather forecast for the Saturday .
