Homers Oddysey race report published on Elimar Pigeons click here! -

Alan Darragh wins his 4th INFC Yearling National –

After the change in management the new move did not work out unfortunately and former long time secretary Trevor Topping cane out of retirement to get things going again. The OB Skibbereen was missed but a programme was set in place to have a Yearling Nat, Kings Cup and Friendship National. Alan Darragh won the Yearling Nat for the 4th time and now has 8 x 1sts in the INFC. Since its introduction the Ylr Nat was the best supported event a race proposed by myself, and the late L O Barr. My report as usual will include results for local Clubs, Feds & Combines, Remember the history of the INFC races is listed on our website www.pgeonnetwork.com

The first race of the Irish National Flying Club season was the Sennen Cove Yearling National held on Saturday 13th June. The 1669 birds were liberated at 8.30am in light west/north westerly winds. Alan Darragh of Cullybackey clocked at 16.36pm flying 332 miles to his Swallowbrae loft's on the Fenaghy Road to win 1st North Section and 1st Open.

This result brought Alan's record tally of INFC National wins up to eight 1st Opens which includes 4 x 1st INFC Yearling Nationals and the one that started it all off the 1st Open INFC Kings Cup from Jersey 40 years ago in 1986 with 'Independent Ranger'.

Alan's new National winner a blue cheq hen has been named " Swallowbrae Bolt". Her sire has bred many prize-winners including 9th Open Penzance and a bird to win 7 x 1st Prizes. Her dam was a gift from Danny Dixon of Ballymoney. This hen is a direct daughter of Danny's legendary 'Dixie Chic' when she was paired to her grandson. “Baldy' rightfully named as he got a bad picking when he was only a youngster'Baldy' is a brother of Bobby Coyle's pencil cock and a brother of Ryan Barr's North Coast Classic winner with pools and prize money Ryan won £12,000 and John McDowell of Ballymoney won the Talbenny Young Bird National with a cock off another brother. 'Dixie Chick' is grand dam of two INFC National winners and one 2nd open national the past couple of years. Alan sent 20 to the National and timed 8 in the Open prizes 1st, 16th, 29th, 47th, 48th, 74th, 86th & 94th Open INFC.

2nd Open 2nd North Section is John Greenaway of Bondhill, John timed a mealey hen. She was raced on darkness as a young bird and in preparation for the yearling national she had nearly all the inland programme plus 1st Dale. She was sent to the race sitting fourteen days on eggs. Her sire was a gift from Ian Gibb of Davy Calvin bloodlines, and the dam came from club mate Willy Capper. John is a great supporter of the INFC and is one of a select few having won a Gold Medal. This is his second time being 2nd Open in a national having previously been 2nd Open Friendship National.

3rd Open 3rd North Section is Davy Calvin, Bondhill, she was also 2 open Mid Ulster Fed Dungarvin OB National, her dam was the “301” hen. His second bird was 7th Yearling Nat was also 2nd Open Tramore Mid Ulster Fed.

South Section
1st - South Section 5th Open- Michael and Una Gorman.

They fly with the Balbriggan club and are members of the East Coast Federation.
Indeed, Michael and his good friend Jackie McMahon do a brilliant job in both organisations. His pigeon, a dark check cock was raced as a young bird and was flying widowhood for the 2026 season. This pigeon was placed in some races this year. He was fancied because he won pool money in some of these races. The bird was bred by Gerard O'Mara in Dublin. Michael has done very well with this strain down through the years, winning at club and federation level. So, a big thank you to Gerard.

2nd South Section 14th Open- B & P McEvoy.
Of Ocean View Lofts, Castlebellingham and the East Coast Federation. The winning pigeon was a blue hen. She is a 'soontjen', the best of their winning bloodlines. She is also a granddaughter of their King's Cup winner 'Mammy's Girl'. The birds get 3 weeks training; they fly in all the land races in the club down to Skibbereen (200 miles). All birds are raced using the 'Roundabout System'. Feeding is provided by Richard Donnelly's Natural Mixes. Blaine and his father Philip put a lot of work into getting the birds ready for the channel races.

They would like to say a big thank you to everyone in the INFC for ensuring racing went ahead. These are the races that they love.
This partnership has been at the top level of land and channel races over the last number of years. They are a credit to our sport.

3rd South Section - 21st Open- Michael Connolly.
Racing with Blackwater RPC Co Wexford and the South Leinster Federation.
A blue cock bred from a gift cock from his good friend, Leonard Bolger and a hen of his own breeding. This pigeon flew all land races with the South Leinster Federation. This race was his first time flying across the water. What an achievement! The bird flew celibate to his nest box. Michael was absolutely thrilled and has high hopes for him flying in the King's Cup next year. Michael feeds the 'Van Tilberg' mixtures to both old and young birds. He finds this mixture to be excellent. Michael wishes to congratulate Alan Darragh on winning the Yearling National. He understands this is the fourth time Alan has won the event. What a record! A brilliant pigeon fancier. Text David Black and Kevin Anderson INFC press officers.

Stephen Doherty and daughter Natalie of Cullybackey continued their fine form from the yearling national events timing two birds in the money this season. 3rd & 9th MA Combine and 24th & 67th Open. Their first bird timed was a cheq pied hen from 'Connelly Express' which scored 6th MA Combine & 236th Sennen Cove Yearling National and 1st MA Combine & 11th Open Infc Saint Malo Friendship National. The dam was a direct N Black and Sons of Dromara and contained Davy's Fiona lines. Sadly this hen went missing around the loft last year.
