MID ULSTER RACING FEDERATION – PENZANCE RACE REPORT

The Mid Ulster Racing Federation made the journey to Penzance on Saturday 20th June proudly sponsored by W G Neill and sons building contractor for the main prize money and also by by Hillary and ceril Beattie of Beatties pet food and pigeon supplies for a £100 marks and Spencer voucher for best 2 bird average we thank these sponsors whole heartedly for supporting our fledgling organisation
The birds were liberated at 10:10am into light variable conditions. A total of 30 members sent 632 birds, and competitors were treated to a keenly contested race with excellent performances across all centres.
Taking the top honour and securing 1st Federation 1st open was David Calvin of Hoggs, whose outstanding blue hen GB25B46622 recorded a winning velocity of 1288.82 ypm this same hen was 3rd open bude the week previous David enjoyed another exceptional day’s racing, placing multiple birds throughout the Federation result and once again demonstrating the strength and consistency of his team also on winning the best 2 bird average with 1st and 3rd open securing the prize
Pushing David all the way to the finish was G Buckley & Son, who claimed an excellent 2nd Federation with GB25X15772, just fractions behind the winner. The Buckley loft also featured prominently throughout the result and continues to enjoy a tremendous season.
Completing the Federation podium was David Calvin once again, taking 3rd Federation with GB24B19480. The top five Federation positions were rounded out by R Buckley in 4th place and Ronnie Williamson in 5th, underlining the dominance of the Hoggs Centre in this week’s race.
The Hoggs/Armagh Centre, which were race marked together, produced a particularly strong performance, occupying many of the leading Federation positions. David Calvin headed the centre result, followed closely by G Buckley & Son and R Buckley.
Over in Bleary, it was another memorable day for G & S McMullan, who topped the centre and claimed an impressive 7th Federation with their winning mealy hen GB24D02834. Geoff and Steven dominated the Bleary result, filling many of the leading positions and once again proving the quality of their racing team.
The Meadows HPS result provided one of the closest finishes of the day, with Aidan Mallon taking the red card and nomination. Congratulations to Aidan on a fine performance in a tightly fought contest. Alan Larkin & Sons and Lee Smyth were close behind in what proved to be an exciting result for Meadows members.
In Armagh HPS, R Parkes & Son led the way, with Kieran Shannon recording several excellent positions in the club result. Roy continues to enjoy a tremendous run of form and followed up his success from the previous day, where he won 1st Club Armagh and achieved an excellent 9th Section E in the INFC Dunmanway Yearling National.
Congratulations go to all prize winners and competitors across the Federation. The Penzance race produced a strong test for the birds, and the quality of performances throughout the result once again highlights the strength of competition within the Mid Ulster Racing Federation.
A sincere thank you goes to everyone involved in the organisation of the race, from the officials and club workers to those responsible for race marking and ensuring the birds were prepared and transported for competition.
