Mid Antrim Combine - NIPA Cloughmartin 07/08/26

The fourth young bird race of the season was flown from Cloughmartin in County Tipperary. Birds were liberated at 9.00am in southerly winds and another fast race followed. Ballymena & District lofts again had a good weekend racing taking 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th Combine etc. The winner was M Graham on 1761 who timed a blue hen bred by ace racers and breeders Paddy & Willuam McManus of Ahoghill. This hen was bred from Peter Cran pigeons brought in last season. Runner up in Combine were last week's Combine winners Trevor Johnston & Son on 1756. Trevor timed one off a pair of birds on loan from Gary Gibson of Cullybackey. Broughshane winner Marc Neilly was next best timing two good birds for 3rd & 6th Combine. Marc's two birds were nestmates, the sire bought at N Ferguson & Son bereavement sale and dam was purchased at Beggs & Hall bereavement sale. Bertie Blair of Ballymena was 5th Combine with the same chequer hen that won 1st Ballymena & District and 3rd Combine from 2nd Kilbeggan. Bertie's hen sitting on eggs has only had two of the four races to date and has scored a 3rd & 5th Combine from them. The master is working his magic with her. Sire is a Van Den Bulck gift cock from clubmate Johnston Eagleson and the Bulck dam was purchased from Jeff Greenaway. Denis Craig was 7th Combine and 1st Cullybackey on 1729. Denis timed the same bird that won 1st club & 9th Combine from 1st Kilbeggan. This one was in a kit from Paddy & William McManus of Ahoghill and breeding is Alex Docx x Van Den Brande. Jimmy Smyth & Son won Ahoghill on 1717 and Henry Turkington was best in Kells on 1716. Henry's bird was bred from a hen purchased at Houston Bros of Randalstown clearance sale and the sire was a Davy Black cock from Joey Wright of Ballymena. William McFetridge was first in Rasharkin on 1597 with a Van Den Brande bird down from pigeons of Beggs & Hall of Larne and Ian Stewart had the winner in Randalstown.
