The race marking arrangements for Cullybackey Centre regarding Rosscarbery OB Inland Nat are as follows. The entry fees etc will be collected between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 19th May and race marked next day Thursday 20th May between 4.00pm and 6.30pm. All clocks will be set on Thursday 20th May, the big race will be flown on Saturday 22nd May. The next two races are Clonmel and Fermoy on 15th May to be flowed by Rosscarbery then cross channel to Talbenny, South Wales.

The NIPA birds were racing from Clonmel last weekend, due to weather conditions we had an early liberation at 7.30am It was a tight finish up into Coleraine with the best bird timed in the County Derry RPS by W & W Murdock just ahead of the big guns T McCrudden, J L Madden and Hanson & Harper.

In the early liberation from Clonmel Ron McKelvey doing 1583 has 1st Newry & Dist, best in the North South Federation and will be up at the top of the NIPA. His winner is a 3 year old Blue w/f hen raced on the widowhood system. She was very lightly raced up to now. Her sire is a Braspenning cock that won the Fed twice in London and is also sire to an 1st Open winner for the McKelvey loft. Her dam is a Wall, Lunt & Green pigeon purchased in Blackpool called 'Marieke'.

In the East Antrim Sect C the NIPA birds were competing from Clonmel in County Tipperary, due to the weather liberation was as planned at the earlier time of 7.30am. Best in the Sect C might just be in Muckamore where Jimmy Courtney had a big card with the winner doing velocity 1555 and followed by John White. Eastway will be well placed with the winner timed by M & T Griffiths (1546) and although I don’t have the result I hear T & T Davison takes 1st doing 1538. Other who will be well placed include B & M Gilmore 1st Ballyclare (1533) and Campbell & Bigger 1st Glengormley (1530). Elliott Bros have the best birds into Carrickfergus the winner doing velocity 1525 and the G K & I Moxham team are best in Larne for the second week.

From Clonmel when 43 Larne & District members sent 880 birds G,K & I Moxham take the red card again this week, making it two wins on the trot with 1525. The winner this week is again a Williamson Busschaert through the same lines as their national winner ‘Millbrae Boy’ and was a chequer cock racing roundabout who was paired to last weeks winner. The Moxham’s also take fourth with a Williamson X Sootzen on 1509. Second R Mills & son with a Lindelauf bred from K Rooney of Annalong on 1522. Third to B McCammon on 1517 with another K Rooney Lindelauf cheq hen. This hen was young bird of the year in the club in 2009. Brian and Rab purchases these Lindelaufs to race as young birds and they have raced really well for them both. R Mills & son has another bird taking 5th on 1492 and Beggs & Hall take sixth on 1489 with a pigeon who has already taken 9 positions in Larne & District.

Northern Ireland Channel Federation – COPD Charity Open Race.
The charity race for COPD Fund, in memory of my late father John “Rocky” Reid, got under way on Sunday 25th April. The race was flown from Kildare and after a tricky start to the day, the weather improved in time for the liberation at 12.30pm. The birds were liberated in a south west wind, and the wining velocity recorded was 1666, by the lofts of T & K Mawhinney who also took the next 4 positions in the open. An excellent performance from Mawhinney Lofts, winning £250 in prize money, taking all off the pools and the best 2-bird average hamper prize containing, Paloma Products sponsored by Henry McLaughlin of Coalisland. I was chatting to Timmy early that morning and he was quietly confident and I can see why. A partnership to watch out for this year, if this result is anything to go by. I would like to congratulate them both on their fantastic performance. The Nom was won by Kevin Douglas of Lurgan Social winning 3 bags of corn, sponsored by Cyril Beattie of Laurelvale. The young bird donated by Ronnie Williamson was won by Tom Wilson of Bleary.

My family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the prize winners for donating there prize money back into the COPD fund. We were really taking back by there generosity. It just goes to shows, that there is no better sport that gives as much, when it comes to raising money for charities.
