News Letter Sport - Sat 12/06/10

The News Letter, now in its fourth century of continuous publication, has come a long way since it first saw the light of day in 1737. On a visit to Northern Ireland, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth described the longevity of the newspaper as "an achievement in which the people of Northern Ireland can take great pride". Pigeon News is featured in the Farming Life supplement each Wednesday.

The INFC Yearling Nat was flown from Sennen Cove yesterday, 844 members sent 4,337 birds competing for £36,685 in pools and prizes in one of the top events of the old bird season. Liberation was at 8.00am in a Lt NNE wind. Last year the race was won by Liam Donnelly & Son from Finglas in Dublin. The race was due to be flown on Wednesday but was delayed due to weather conditions on the Irish Sea.

Last weekend the NIPA enjoyed good racing again from Talbenny and Fermoy, not just as many birds away as the week previous but returns appear to be on par with the week earlier from Talbenny, maybe slightly better. We had sunshine and showers and the birds were released at 10.30am in Fermoy and 11.15am in Talbenny. First reports indicate that Donnelly Bros from Newry City will top the NIPA for the second race on the trot doing velocity 1605.
