D Coyle & Son, Coleraine Prem 1st Open Roscrea –

Danny Coyle & Son 1st Open NIPA from Roscrea.

Last weekend the NIPA birds were transported to Roscrea in preference to Gowran Park which it was thought might take the birds out over Dublin Airport in the high winds forecast for Saturday. As it turned out the NIPA were the only organization to hold over on Saturday due to unfavourable conditions, Sunday was due to be better and many were predicting a Blow Home. Liberation was delayed till 12 Noon with conditions improving all the time and the birds were released in a helping southerly wind. Winners were again on time but the convoy experienced problems over the route and by clock checking at the local clubs very few had more than half their entry home. Not the result we were looking for so early in the old bird season. Our 2.00pm rule for liberations ruled out a later release.

Overall winners were Danny Coyle and son Bobby from the Coleraine Premier, a Van den Brande Mealy hen three year old raced Roundabout and bred by clubmate Anthony McDonnell a former Kings Cup winner. Bond & Diamond from the same club were runner-up followed by W & J Smyth of Ballymena & Dist and three early arrivals in Ahoghill Flying Club.
