FOR JOE WARD & SON.

A VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH:-

I was out and about the other day and along with Franko we called on some friends Joe Ward & Son (Joseph) Divis Lofts Belfast after seeing the birds there’s the 5 of us Gerry Toner was there also so sitting talking pigeons Joe Franko and Gerry were talking about the old days going back to the 70’s and Joe was telling me about his Busschaert pigeons and I past comment that on Facebook the night before young Joe had a photo up of old line Busschaerts and Peter Martin a very well respected Belfast fancier said “there has never been a strain of birds that have made such an impact on the sport than the Busschaerts have, get the rite ones and they will keep you going for years ask your da (Joe Ward) ! so glad that I have kept mine all these yrs even thru my illness 50 to 500 mls no problem” and not realising that Joe has had busschaerts going back over 30 years I said Joe how would you fancy doing a short video it took a lot of coxing but he did it that said a lot of what he had told us off camera he left out of the video like when he went out of the birds giving the best of his busschaerts 3 pair direct of the number 1 pair to his good friend Eric mc Laughlin and when Joe went back into the birds and Eric said he still have Joes old line busschaerts so up to Eric’s Joe went where Eric had the  Busschaerts in a loft by themselves never raced just breeding and Joe had his pick of them so here’s a quick run thru some of the important things Joe left out Joe ward and son association with the Busschaerts goes back to 1982 the first of them came from another good friend Gerry toner (who was sitting talking with us) they were Pluto Crayonne and the little black lines then in 85 at the sale of Jamesy Maguire they brought a cock a son of Jamesy double open winner and that cock was paired to a hen of Gerry toners muchlin open winner that pair went on to becomes Divis lofts number 1 stock pair one of their off spring a young bird cock called Nick in his first ever race won 1st open everything out of that pair went on to win opens or  bred open winners or derbies and anyone they bred birds for out of that pair Busschaerts won races with them example Tony Curran won over 100 1st and topped the open so rather than read what I have to say listen to the man himself

Below 3 generations of pigeon fancier Joe Ward (in the glasses) Joe Ward holding the bird and Joe Ward (junior holding the bird) bet that had you all thinking ha-ha the race was the Skibb O/B Championship 1989 the Wards took 1st and 3rd places
