Air Ambulance Sale December 2024 – Cheque £6,813

Spent some time yesterday with some of the team from the Charity based Air Ambulance N.I based at the Maze. At the start off the year I decided to run a pigeon auction to raise some funds for this very worthy cause. When pigeons are involved, no better person to seek help from than my father (Homer), in a short space off time and with the help of some very good friends within the fancy we had a superb batch of Lots to Auction. Having stepped aside from Auctioneering myself, we decided to use the well established online site owned by Wesley Sawyers and professionally assisted with the excellent Gary Donaldson in hosting and executing the sale to maximum effect. I would personally like to thank everyone who helped in anyway from the fanciers who sought pigeons, the fanciers who offered and indeed the fanciers who bid and purchased. You have all contributed to a superb cause, a total off £6813 was presented which runs this amazing service for 1 day, potentially saving 2 lives. I am hoping to run another sale for this fantastic cause towards the end off the year with the help off the fancy. Adie 28/02/25.

Air Ambulance NI is a charity that provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for Northern Ireland, many probably don’t know that it is a Charity Based organisation that relies on support via donations from the public to keep that Red Helicopter in the sky when it’s called upon.

To give you the fancy an insight and indeed the very kind fanciers who have donated and potential purchasers, £2.5 Million needs to be raised yearly, approximately £6,850 per day. The service has been running from 2017, with an average of 2 callouts per day. As I type this lead in, only yesterday the Air Ambulance attended a RTC and landed on the road off the accident and transported a seriously injured person to hospital.

One of the fanciers who have kindly donated has already endorsed the importance off this invaluable service, Gerald Delaney owner of the famous Oroory Hill Stud, witnessed personally over recent times, when the air ambulance landed in a field close to his home to facilate an injured party, from when the call was made, now Gerald lives in a remote area outside Dromore, the Air Ambulance had arrived within 6 minutes landing in a field, an ambulance reaching the same area from its base would have took 45 mins.

The money raised from this auction will go a long way in contributing and facilitating the many costs including, Fuel, Flight Suits, Special Hanger Equipment, Helmets, Helicopter Rental and Insurance to name just a few.
